We are looking for someone who might be willing to share driving to and from CCM with us for our freshman son. He has a schedule that requires him there four days a week but not all day. We are interested in finding anyone that might have a similar schedule one or more days a week that might be able to carpool. If anyone is interested or can point us in the right direction it would be appreciated. Thanks!
Local bus service to the County College of Morris is supplied by the Morris County Metro, which is operated by Pabco Transit, Inc. under contract with NJ Transit. Check with Pabco for bus stop and schedule information at 973-328-7686. The Morris County Metro Route that services the college is Route #2. The CCM bus stop is located in parking lot #6, near the Student Center's lower level entrance.
Schedules for various other routes are also available at the Information Window, located in the Student/Community Center. For information on alternate modes of travel through Northern New Jersey, visit the TransOptions website and the NJ Department of Transportation. Schedules for the various routes are available at the Campus Life Information Window or by visiting NJ DOT Web site.
Thanks TJOHN, but I was looking for carpooling, not public transportation. The information you took off their website is outdated, the Morris Country Metro lines have been taken over by NJTransit and there is nothing easy about getting from SO/MPLWD to CCM using it, it's 3+ hours in each direction.
Still looking for anyone who may be interested in carpooling...
County colleges are geared to the residents of that county. Still it seems strange that there would not be some form of reliable mass transit going to the college. The trains that stop at South Orange and Maplewood stations go into Morris County. If the college is near a train station, there might be public transportation or a school-run shuttle bus going to/from the college/train station. This would likely still be longer than driving put would be a good fall back on those days/times when driving was impractical.
I drive to CCM on Thursday late afternoon for an evening class. I leave Maplewood at 5:15 for a 6:15 class. The class ends at 9:15 but usually lets out earlier. Does he have a class on Thursday nights and needs a ride to and fro?
Transportation, especially public transport, to CCM is difficult. It does not take 3.5 hours though. However, if your son has late afternoon or evening classes, he would be out of luck as far as catching a bus back to the station. My nephew goes there (a freshman also) and since he waited until the last minute to register, he has a horrible schedule. On Mondays and Thursdays, he catches an 8:20am train from SO to get to his 10am class. He gets rides home sometimes and to the station sometimes.
I feel bad for him but I am really hoping that he registers early enough next semester to get better classes.
Also, just as an aside, if he ever gets stranded, Dover Taxi charges $8 one way from the school to Dover train station.
Has your son tried checking with the parking office on campus? They may have a carpooling/rideshare board on campus somewhere. Worth a shot. Good luck!
