Traffic to NYC Sat Dec 26

I need to visit a relative after Christmas. On weekends I prefer to drive.

Anyone have any idea what traffic from NJ to NYC will be like Saturday, Dec 26? Will it be heavy because people visiting or light because its not a workday?

The other option is to take mass transit Monday.

really depends on the time you want to go, and where in the city you are headed.  I drove in this past Saturday, around mid-day, and had to drive across mid-town. while it wasn't exactly a breeze, it wasn't awful.

I suspect it will be very quiet.  Lots of people away for the long weekend.

As a general rule on going to the city, the earlier the better on the weekends. I'd be pretty confident in not getting too caught up in traffic as long as I left SOMA by 9am. The longer you wait to go in the dicier it gets. Heading back across the Hudson to SOMA in the PM / evening seems to be a crap shoot.

That said I suspect mjh is right and traffic will be light both ways all day with lots of people out of town for the holiday...

Thanks all. I'll go early.

Manhattan that week is typically a ghost town. When we lived in the city it was my favorite time because everyone left.

Google Maps now estimates traffic on future days - you can adjust to see what they think it will be.

Thanks all  grin

Interesting that "future" Google Maps. I'll try it Friday evening for Saturday's trip.
