Traffic Notice: West South Orange Avenue Closed April 28th and 29th

TRAFFIC NOTICE:

West South Orange Avenue between Glenview Road and Cherry Lane will be closed in both directions for 48 hours starting on Tuesday April 28th at 7:00am. This is the area commonly known as the S-turns. The closure will facilitate the placement of a new bridge. Local detours will be set in place and Essex County Sheriff's Officers will be on post to assist with traffic control and direction.

Thanks Howard.  You have always been proactive in putting this stuff on MOL and it is appreciated.  It would be great if this kind of information could also be posted on the Village web site.

Rob, fYI, it has been posted on the town site for a few days now. It also went out on the town's twitter as well as SOPD's social media.

ETA: +1 for Howard's efforts here.

I'm already dreading this, but at least I know and can try to avoid it. Thanks!!

Ace, the first time I looked on the town web site, I couldn't find it.  I thought it would be posted in the news section at the top.  I didn't think to look in the police section.  But you are right, it is there.  Thanks.

It has also been on flashing signs in the s curves for a couple of weeks, but thanks for posting here.

Coming home last night from Livingston I took Mount Pleasant Ave. instead.

And surprise! A big chunk of that road too was closed for repairs.

What kind of f**** idiots are doing the planning here, where two major east-west roads are closed at the same time?

Tom, you want both road repairs and planning?  From the county?

This is Essex County, if Broadway Joe can't put his picture on it, we'd never know about it.  grin

My bad (slapping self on the forehead). I don't know what I was thinking.

so tomorrow it should be all clear right?

I would like to thank the persons who started and contributed to this thread.  We were traveling on SO Avenue from Livingston yesterday in late afternoon and thanks to the advanced warning given on this thread, we were able to avoid the closed section of road by taking Old Short Hills Road in the direction of Millburn.

 No, not reopening until Friday.

@joan_crystal: what time did you go? We were snaking through Millburn at around 6pm. It took forever, and I couldn't believe how poorly behaved some of the drivers were. Someone actually swerved around me as I was next to go at the 3-way stop near the library. She ended up a full second ahead of me on the roadway. I thought I'd try Mount Pleasant tonight, but second-guessing that now.

I had thought it was originally going to be closed for three days, but elsewhere I read that it's closed for just 48 hours, which would mean tomorrow would be okay. Anyone?

@zucca:  About the same time as you (left Florham Park at about 5:30 pm).  We took Old Short Hills Road to Main Street to Millburn  Avenue to Valley Street.  It took us a few lights to make it past the school but on the whole it was not too bad.  We avoided the detour leading to Glen Avenue (by the library) because we thought that would get the most traffic.

South Orange Avenue has been reopened.

Yes--Glen was the disaster. I went on Northfield today, no muss, no fuss.

Great to know it's been reopened!
