There is a 60% chance of thunderstorms.  Some storms could have high winds.  There is a small chance of hail and/or a tornado or two, more likely north and west of our area.

I would not shelter now, or in fact change your plans much at all.

But I would keep an eye on the sky and and ear to the radio in case things go sideways.

If you see lightning or hear thunder, get inside don't wait and see.

Max, should I go into the city at 5?  You know NJ Transit...

NYC. gov just issued a tornado watch alert for the same time period as Max's alert above.

According to accuweather we're due to get walloped any minute now by a major thunderstorm. All I can hear are fireworks from somewhere.

Just let the Mets get through 4 and 1/2 innings.

The thunder is starting and the radar doesn't look to happy right now.

we might just be right in a calmer trough in the middle of some ugly stuff as it slides part us to the east.

We're kinda glued to the radar right now...

what are we supposed to do when there's a tornado watch? Should we go to the basement? If not  how do we know when it becomes time to go to the basement?

Where I grew up, there were tornado sirens that would go off when it was time to go to the basement.

I don't know if they have sirens around here but may have forgotten. If you have a radio or tv on they'll interrupt broadcasts to do such warnings, won't they?

Yes and a lot of smart phones get emergency alerts now. I think if there was a change to a Tornado warning that would trigger the alerts.

I keep checking accuweather and the Weather Channel app for changes to the alerts. Still in a Tornado watch not warning.

I'd think so. I've never experience an East Coast tornado. And actually this weekend I'm out of town, so I'm missing all the excitement.

(and actually, I hope you all miss any excitement - no tornado is a good tornado)

There were fireworks at Rock Spring Country Club in West Orange tongiht.  I think they got them in before the storm.  I was driving through that rain from Route 10 to west orange and it was not fun!

All watches and warnings have expired in our immediat area.

There are still some smaller storms, with lightning, moving through.

At this time it appears there were no reported tornados today in the US.

Guess who forgot to close their car window before the storm   gulp

oh, no! Hope the mess isn't too bad, spontaneous!

We got some thunder action in central CT, with torrential rain for awhile. Good for the garden, scary for the cats, and otherwise uneventful. Thank goodness.
