To the gifted South Mountain reservation artist ...

responsible for the miniature "house montages"  in the recesses of tree root flares:  Thank you. Your work is appreciated. I've admired it for some time.

The jewelry box from last summer/fall was a favorite.  And the "log ladder" particularly made me smile. Just spotted it today.

Are these the ones on the walking path at Locust Grove in Millburn?

Could it be the wildflower sculpture park?

I did.  Meh -- I was looking forward to fairy houses!   smile

I'm surprised many of you have not seen these yet! I've only been here 2 years and discovered these little treasures long ago oh oh

There are fairy houses in the Locust Grove part of the res. I don't the the OP and the FB link are talking about the same thing.

Thank you, j_r. I didn't know about that.  Other (prior/ongoing) creative endeavors by same artist?

Does anyone know if the "jewel(ry) box" (with horse, I recall) last year was from the same artist? It was on the Lenape trail, between Overlook and Pingry trails, near Beech Brook cascades.  Somewhat removed from the location mentioned above.

The creator(s) of the  whimsical "stone pile pyramids"  also deserve a mention.

Several talented people working in this reservation.

Marking trees with paint is not cool LOL

Call me crazy, but I recall the fairy houses being around for longer than five years.

Um, you do know that trails are generally marked with paint on trees, right? And that that is different from self-promotional vandalism in National Parks? Have you seen the Fairy Trail markings? they are green, and small and much less obvious than the trail markings kindly provided by the Conservancy, for which I am grateful.

yahoo yahoo - 20 years,not 5.

Yes, I know what a blaze is. And yes, I have seen the green paint on the trees.  She did not request permission to paint on the trees in our reservation, and she would not have received permission had she requested same.  They are very obvious, and a defacement of public green space.

ETA - Furthermore from her comments in the article it is clear that she knew what she was doing (i.e., painting on our trees) was not cool.

Thanks for your reply!  You didn't answer my question about  whether you recognized a difference between a trail marking and the self-promotional vandalism detailed in your link, but no worries. I see that you would rather focus on "defacement of public green space" because the Fairy Trail markings are somehow so much more offensive than the official trail markings - which are in much bolder colors - throughout the reservation.  From her comments in the article it is clear that the creator felt back about breaking the rules.

In the end I guess some people will focus on the rules while others will focus on the joy children experience when finding the fairy houses and the solace of whimsy in challenging times.  Have a lovely evening.
