This explains everything in Maplewood Village. Now I won't be thinking "wtf?" every time I drive down Maplewood Ave.
Thanks
Now now. Don't throw everyone under the bus. Some DO pull over. Granted it's often on a crosswalk or in striped (no-parking) spots, but still.

you're right. it's not everyone. not everyone in a supersized SUV tries to make a left turn that turns into a k-turn that blocks traffic for two minutes as they park in a crosswalk. but now I can just smile and give those folks a thumbs up because I know they're more important than me.

Many are not aware of this so I thought I would let people know about the updates to the traffic laws.
Under the old laws there were a bunch of confusing rules to remember. Who arrived at a 4 way stop first, if two vehicles arrive at a 4 way stop simultaneously which one went first, how to handle traffic from a side road entering into a main road, etc. This became too confusing for New Jersey motorists to remember in their day to day driving so they have update title 39 in an attempt to make driving less confusing.
Under the new law right of way goes to whoever feels that they are more important. Last to arrive at a 4 way stop? Doesn't matter, if you are more important than you go first. Trying to make a left hand turn when oncoming traffic is going straight? If you are more important than you go first. Trying to make that right hand turn while a pedestrian is crossing with the signal? No brainer, if that person was more important than you they would be in a car and not on foot, so you obviously have the right of way.
I hope this explains how the new law works and helps alleviate any confusion out there on the roads.
Happy motoring!
