I went ahead and gave $20 cash, he is great, works hard, goes the extra mile, and is deserving. some of my friends also gave cash.
We've typically given $20 cash to the carrier.

I'm thinking of giving our two trash haulers $40. They're working near minimum and I suspect they have crappy benefits, if any.
I doubt the postman is going to tell anyone you gave him a cash gift. Its a pretty common practice.
We have had the same mail carrier for years and I give cash in a card every year. I know its against regulations, but we give it to him in person and I know he appreciates it very much. We are giving the trash collectors $30 each.
My postman thanked me profusely today. I really like him. He's reliable, dependable. Friendly. I said it wasn't much, but he said for him it means respect. I was so touched.

In previous years I have always given my postman $20 as a Christmas gift. Now I understand that they can only receive a gift worth no more than $20 ,not cash. Government employees cannot receive cash gifts. Are you giving cash?
