The Village Barricades.

Summer and fall are over. Some of the restaurants have removed their outdoor seating. Yet, all barricades remain. Time to take them down?  They can be put back in a month or two. Meanwhile, the parking spaces can be reclaimed.

And it's about the barricades. THEY LOOK LIKE **** !

It looks like they will be here for a season or two... or I wouldn't be unhappy if outdoor dining became permanent. But is it possible to replace the concrete with something more aesthetically pleasing?  Surely some company makes something that doesn't look like the entrance to the county incinerator that keeps the garbage trucks in line.

The outdoor dining areas don't upset me as long as they don't occupy a handicapped parking space that cannot not be replaced elsewhere.  When that handicapped parking space is used to store furniture, it becomes inexcusable. Now that the town mask and vaccination mandates have been removed (announced during last evening's TC meeting), it is time to restore the parking space so that those with mobility issues can visit the Village again. If that means removing, or at least shortening the outdoor dining parklet so be it.

I like the outdoor dining spaces, but I agree that a lot of the clutter needs to be cleaned up.

Time for a new plan that helps restore some of the parking but maintains the outdoor experience.

Aw, you beat me to it.  I thought that the Village Barricades had a French protest sound to it.

They really are an eyesore. Take them down asap.

It looks like the Maple Leaf took down their tent.  If they don't plan on putting it back, they should free up a few parking spots.  Right now, there's about 20 parking posts lost to outdoor eating.  As for the barricades, I'm sure it was tricky to have an alternate option when it started.  The cement cinder blocks by the pub tents are a good deterrent.

Its a question of how long the outdoor dining is going to exist. I enjoy it and hope it continues. My objection is the aesthetics. If it is going to continue, I hope for a solution that is more pleasing to the eye than orange and white plastic barriers in front of concrete blocks.

Ballards? Like in front of the Newark Federal Building?

Most of the tables in front of Coda and Chutzpah are gone now, but the structure remains.

If they aren't going to use the space, they should take down the structure.

Try this. If they are going to be a permanent addition to the village....

they also come in black.. or could have reflective stripes.

There are variations that come with posts that can be detached for temporary access and then replaced.

Perhaps they took the tables in for the winter?

Naybe so. There are other barricaded places that seem to be unused now. Removable Ballards on permanent base would solve that problem and not be an eyesore.

But the question remains... is outdoor dining going to be permanent? I hope so.

No, the tables were outside all winter.  There was robust demand for outdoor dining due to Omicron.
My guess is that they can now fill up the indoor tables and there is less need for outdoor or they don't have the manpower to fully cover indoor and outdoor dining.
