I'm watching it now. I'm up to episode 5. They obviously spent a ton of money on the production to get everything to look just right. I do however find it to be slow. A lot of the time I just want to say, "Get on with it." I've decided I'll watch the whole thing no matter what. Some of the actors are excellent.
As a lifelong Anglophile, I am watching and enjoying. It IS a bit slow, but as the Times critic said, the emotional tone always seems just right. And for all the pomp and circumstance, it's surprisingly underplayed.
Well done, especially John Lithgow. I understand the criticism of the slow demise of the king, but it pays off in nearly every episode.
Did anyone see this on Netflix? The NYTimes seemed to like it. I think I have to watch more to make a judgement. The photography, settings, etc. were lovely and recognized some excellent actors. Did think the first episode dwelt too long on the king's illness.
