The Burger Thread

They have a loose definition of "burger".  I don't count chicken on a bun as a burger -- it's a chicken sandwich. Humbug!

I agree - but what if the meat was ground up - like a turkey burger?

It's on 22, so a hassle to get to - but appears on some delivery apps.

Locally - fast food - I like Five guys - but it has gotten pricey.

And for sit down - I do like Pickett's with their bacon jam.

And at home - I go to N&K for their burger blend.

I'm not sure I could justify a trip to the US just for a burger, although 30burgers does look interesting.

I had a burger from The Royale Brothers last night, and it was very good - especially as it was washed down with a Vietnamese beer.

Royale Brothers probably doesn't deliver to America, unfortunately.

Even Route 22 is pretty far for a burger, but 30 Burgers looks tempting.

Locally, I like Five Guys and the Parkwood Diner.

For me- the best burger around is at Lorena’s, especially when washed down with a soma amber ale.  I also enjoy them at the gate or coda.  For home cooking- absolutely N&K burgers.  And for those that have not yet had the N&K pork chops ( bone in) what are you waiting for.  So delicious

Anyone tried them at Charley’s Aunt in Chatham? They have regular burgers and a sirloin version. Very good. Full bar, great fries, lots of TVs tuned to sports most of the time.

The pork chops at N&K are insane - they're nicely marbled and melt in your mouth.

I live in Jersey City now and my local dive bar, The New Park Tavern on West Side Ave., is reputed to have the best burger in Hudson County. Having enjoyed the burger perhaps dozens of times, I can say, yes, it's really good. You can see them in the kitchen forming a patty with fresh chopped meat and tossing it on the grill. And you wait for it, sometimes 30 mins. They have a very limited menu, about 6 items, and cash only, thank you very much. But, having enjoyed that burger perhaps dozens of times, I'm over it. I'll order the soup or the corned beef or the hot dog. That about exhausts the menu.

I'm a fan of the West Side of JC in an urban explorer kind of way.  Lincoln Park, cool old apartment buildings etc.  It doesn't get the attention that the fully gentrified east side neighborhoods close to the city get.

whoever designed that parking lot must have been involved in the Dunkin Donuts parking lot design here. I think I'll uber it next time.

I think that parking lot is for the tenants upstairs. Not sure. The place caters to a hyper-local crowd. Most people live within blocks from there so parking is not an issue for most customers. It's not as high-end place. Kind of like a slightly run-down Bunnys. Smaller, and with a much smaller menu. 

I'm surprised that no one has mentioned Cloverleaf Tavern in Caldwell.  Great burgers and the best beer selection around.

been there with my nephew who’s a trooper and lives a few blocks away. It’s the local LE and FD hangout. My sister lives on Corbin ave. I’m around there a lot.

I'm surprised that no one has mentioned Burger King on Springfield Avenue here in town.  Sometimes a Whooper is just about perfect.

This thread is one reason I really like MOL.   Discussions can go from really serious matters to burgers and to everything in between.  ( Unless you consider burgers serious.)   My vote for a really good burger is Tierney's Bar on Valley Road in Montclair.  They use a coffee can to make the right diameter of the burger.  I will try and sample some of the other spots.  Does anyone still eat a burger that is cooked rare?

Medium rare as a rule.

Almost always ordered rare, which is generally the best way to make sure you get a medium rare burger; if it's actually rare when I get it, even better, but a medium rare order = medium or worse on your plate. 

Haven't been to Tierney's in ages; The Office also used to do great ones in Montclair, but Oak Barrel in WO was my go-to; both now closed. The Snug did a good one last time I was there, ages ago. I will say the Americana burger on the Cheesecake Factory menu is much better than you'd expect it to be, and I keep meaning to get to Cloverleaf, where I know they're going to be great. 

I was at a high-end 1-Michelin-star restaurant on the Upper West Side Tuesday night (Essential by Christophe) that offers a highly-rated hamburger. I asked for it medium rare but was told the chef will cook it the way he thinks it should be cooked. It came out very rare.  It was still yummy but I typically like it not so rare.
