Thanks, Words Bookstore!

Just a little shout-out for Words.

I wanted to buy a copy of the Hamilton book for my mom for Mother's Day and needed it quickly, and all of the big guys (including Amazon) were sold out online. But lo and behold, our good ol' neighborhood bookstore was well stocked with them, and super pleasant to deal with. I admit, I rarely buy books; I'm mostly a library user with the once-in-a-while gift thrown in there, so my first instinct was to go online.

While I may have paid a bit more in person than Amazon, it couldn't have been easier and they had exactly what I needed. They clearly had a good read on our community and its interests, knowing this book would likely be popular around town. It's a lovely space and I will be make a point to patronize it more often from now on!

What an asset to the Community!

I order a lot from Amazon as well, and yes it is cheaper.  But every time I'm in Maplewood village I stop in at Words and usually buy something there.  It's partly because it's so important to support a local business that makes you proud to live where you live; but it's also because there's always a book I want there -- usually one I'd never have thought to buy on Amazon.  This place is great.

On the rare occasions when Words doesn't have the book in stock I order it from them.  I'd rather pay a few dollars more for the convenience and pleasure of having a book store within walking distance.

And you cannot beat the quality of service.   They have successfully recommended books for my nieces and nephews of varying ages - not an easy task!

I've gotten into this habit, too. If I have to order, I'll order through them. (My wife still hasn't kicked the habit of ordering from Powell's, but we've been making pilgrimmages there since her mother moved to the Portland area years ago, so I can't blame her.)

I personally read on the Kindle, but I try to buy either gift cards from Words or a book as a gift from there as they are such a fabulous asset to our village. For little kids birthdays I always find the parents love to receive a book instead of a toy and even for the 6-12 y/o kids they love to go and pick out their own book with a gift card. Love Words!
