String lights, tiki torches, thinking maybe work light rentals from home depot....any other ideas of how to add some light to an open backyard. Trees all around the perimeter but nothing withing the backyard. Any advice welcome. Have access to a couple of outlets...
Great ideas on Pinterest. Here is one page: http://www.pinterest.com/explore/hanging-lights-outdoor/

String of lights with paper lanterns.

Strings of white LED Christmas lights give off surprisingly bright light and you can stack many of them on a single outlet due to low current draw. Also, you or someone you know might already have them packed away somewhere.

I know you said temporary, but low voltage is so easy to install and is great to have long term. You can do it on the cheap for about $250 if you find a very inexpensive all in one set. Ours was all custom and piecemeal and even that was only about $600.

We recently had a backyard party and between tiki torches, christmas lights, and votive candles in glass jars our backyard was pretty well lit. We wrapped the christmas lights around the pole of our table umbrella.
