Sully

Pretty good movie. Back and forth in time always messes with me, but it was not that bad for me. Interesting that the movie was not about what I thought it was going to be about.

Worth the buck$'$ Id say. Plus you learn about a new adult drink.

Later, George from California in Jersey

No stinking beaches here, we gots da Shore!

Actually disagree. Thought it was a VERY good movie, as opposed to pretty good. Went with no expectations and only knew about the actual crash and the heroics. Movie was incredibly well-acted and kudos to Clint Eastwood for another excellent directing job. If you go, stay to the end through all titles. No need to say more. Sat next to someone who liked it as much as I did and knew more about the details that the movie provides.

I thought it was very good as well.

Ok, I'll up my posted comment to Very Good. And thanx for not posting too much about the movie. Like the Titanic we know how it ends from the get go. It is the story that makes it so good.

Someone posted in another thread that it could be upsetting to those who are still raw about 9/11, which is many of us. I haven't seen it and am hesitant for that reason.

there's a dream sequence where a plane crashes into a building and, of course, anyone who saw the plane flying low over the city that day had a terrible initial thought.

And who isn't still raw about 9/11 anyway?

Re "who isn't raw", I couldn't think of another way to say that, but certainly some people are more sensitive than others to images that evoke those memories. I will say that, in general, the rawness is much less prevalent in other parts of the country. I heard the comment 'Aren't you all over that yet?" from someone in my home state within a couple of years after it happened. I told them "We will NEVER be 'over' it."

I agree. Like whoever thought THIS was a good idea...

The movie is a Libertarian political attack ad. It presents a false picture of events. The depiction of the federal investigators as hectoring incompetents is particularly egregious, and a blatant lie.

Yawn. They added a little drama and made them a little more antagonistic. Big deal. It wasn't a documentary.

I'll add that they weren't depicted as incompetent at all. They came across and quite professional and respectful in how they were depicted. They were played to be a bit tougher, a bit more gates dive than they were supposed to be in real life but not as incompetents. They simply didn't explore one particular angle.

Y'know, after being marooned on that island for so long, you'd think Tom Hanks would just stay away from airplanes.

Now that's dumb...

Even his wife calls him Sully! What's up with that?

This is exactly why I don't really want to see it, though I can believe it is entertaining.

there was no attack. The NTSB and other boards' members were actually portrayed as quite logical, thoughtful and professional. They were respectful of Sully and crew as he was of them. It was a very professional depiction. They weren't presented as bumbling idiots or being hellbent on proving he was in error at all. They were portrayed as following the evidence and missing one critical element in their models. When they were proven wrong on that element, they were gracious and apologetic. There's no negative depiction even much less any "attack". I love when people don't see a movie but review it based on what they think happens in it.

I agree with conandrob240

Very good movie. Truly a miracle. I read somewhere that if the wings were not perfectly aligned upon landing, the plane would have broken apart resulting in a horrific catastrophe. And at that time with the dark days following the epic financial collapse and the ongoing wars, it was so uplifting.

We were a bit annoyed by how the wife was portrayed and less would have been better.

Not sure but we think Sully said that if he was fired, he would not get his pension.
