Watching Libertarian National Convention

CSpan

Channell 109 on my TV

They are calling the roll of States.

The delegate chair of Nevada proclaimed it the most free State with legal gambling and prostitution, but the next Sate was New Hampshire whose Chair took issue and said that, of course, New Hampshire was the freeist State, and with the highest number of Libertarians "We will survive the Zombie Apocalypse".

Then came NJ. The Delegate Chair started by saying:

"Melissa Edgar from New Jersey and we're sorry". "The State where you can't smile on your Driver's License but why would you want to."

I guess the statists have Edgar held hostage here in NJ against her will.

The Delegate from South Dakota said they had only one vote. She didn't mention the obvious fact that she was the only Black person in the room. And maybe she's the only Black person in South Dakota.

Johnson got only 49.5% so the have to go to second ballot.

Reality TV we can believe in.

Johnson won on the second round. Not sure if they have a VP candidate yet.

Bill Weld. True story.

That is actually a wonderful ticket.

For being a Libertarian party, you would think they would have more fun - maybe smoke some pot, maybe some coke with hookers.  It just looks like a bunch of uptight white guys.

That's who the Libertarian party is--uptight white guys.  Read the book Dark Money.  The whole movement was founded by the Koch brothers.  The Koch father was a founding member of the John Birch Society and they used that as a springboard.  Then they funded university positions and think tanks such as the Cato Institute.  Now they buy up candidates and assist with gerrymandering.  They were going for Republicans, but evidently they will now be going back to their roots.

It's their free choice to be uptight.

I know   I was joking

That is not what I saw. Look at the picture in today's NY Times article on the Convention. It shows the Leader of the Utah Delegation. There were many people there who were clearly not "uptight white guys" including the Chair of the Staten Island Party who also runs something called "Muslims for Freedom". There was a guy with a blue Mohawk and a woman with pink hair and a Statute of Liberty crown. And I would bet there was plenty of pot smoking off the convention floor.

But, so what?

I do not support the Libertarians and think they are foolish idealists as are some Third Parties on the Left, but they oppose military adventures abroad and mass incarceration at home. They are not looking to "build a wall" or impose their religious views on others.

Good one!  grin

False. During the debate, one of the candidates proposed building a wall around Donald Trump and make Hillary (Bernie? I'm actually not sure - but one of em) pay for it.

The libertarians have a platform I'm 90% on board with - but they lose me when they boo anyone who agrees that drivers licenses are probably a good idea.

I did see a story today about the naked guy.  But their nominee looked whiter than Joe Biden's teeth.

They are still a gun loving small government, anti-healthcare, anti any regulation group.

But that's not whiter than Hillary, Bernie or what's his name.

That's why I am not a Libertarian.

I'll probably be voting for a candidate I am less than 90% on board with.
