Since when did Rodney Frelinghuysen becoime a full-bore wingnut?

His latest commercials have me a bit concerned. He's campaigning as if this is South Carolina. Or South Jersey. He says he's a principled conservative, and then reels off a bunch of right wing talking points straight out of Ted Cruz's mouth. Not used to hearing those kinds of ads up here. Kind of scary.

And why isn't there a well funded Dem running against this guy?

Relax. He is trying to dispatch a Republican to his right in the primary. This is what politicians do. And why as a class they are so loathsome. But it is all sound and fury signifying nothing.

Rodney has been remarkably consistent since my days of attending Hobart College with him. Even then, he was an entitled, preppy, mealy-mouthed prick who had everything handed to him by his dad. Never an original thought, nor a principled one. To those who he "serves", you get what Daddy paid for.

Never knew that this was ever a proposal: "His proudest achievement, though, was protecting the Great Swamp from a Port of New York Authority plan to construct another major airport."

His Primary Opponent calls himself the "only conservative" in the race.

He opposes abortion with NO exceptions, then proceeds to oppose euthanasia and, surprisingly, opposes capital punishment because "redemption is always possible".

FYI- There was a small airport in Basking Ridge up until 1980. There was much discussion about a larger airport but luckily the Great Swamp was protected and nothing can be built there.  Condos were built where the small airport was.

It's considered a safe Republican District and yet there are three candidates contesting the Democratic Nomination:

It was actually considered a site for a replacement for Newark airport.  Newark was expanded instead.  This shows you how long it has been since he had a major accomplishment.  It is a safe Republican seat.

It was actually considered a site for a replacement for Newark airport.  Newark was expanded instead.  This shows you how long it has been since he had a major accomplishment.  It is a safe Republican seat.

And it was his father, Peter Freylinghausen, not him, who helped -- though he didn't do it single-handedly. It started out as a grassroots effort by local residents. 

Imagine if you would a modern-day Republican participating in an effort to stop development and instead turn the space into a federal wildlife preserve.

Hey, Drummer Boy, I have an idea, make sure you vote along the Bern Ticket and not  Frelinghuysen , oh that's right, Frehlinghuysen isn't running in this district, you can't vote for him. So what is the point of this thread? Just to stir up some Republican bashing?

There are a number of MOL posters who do not live in Maplewood. You do not know where Drummerboy lives or what District he lives in. Frelinghuysen's District includes Towns in Essex County. One of the Democratic candidates lives in West Orange.

I know and like his two-time Dem opponent, Tom Wyka, who unfortunately, yes, was not as well-funded as needed to pose a legit challenge.

Frehlinghuysen used to be my Congressman. He has been helpful to us on an issue in the past. I was upset when redistricting removed us from his district.
