Progressives are a bunch of Hypocritical Cry Babies

If you turn back the clock 8 years, all you heard was that anyone opposed to the president had a lack of respect for the process. People are threatening to leave after 8 years of "you get what you get".

Remember ripping people for flying the Gadsden flag? This was a very popular topic on this here board. Well how many here are going to knock on the door on Elmwood where I see the American flag flying upside down?

The people have spoken. Deal with it. The Supreme Court Justices that will be appointed, the laws that will be passed, the executive actions over the next 4 years are the will of the people. Feeling like they're not working out for you, call your Congressman.

really? kind of harsh - but I supposed thats what libertarian-ism is all about.

I think I speak for many, including Republicans, in expressing the fear that Donald Trump is unhinged, not that he is bringing in the other parties' basket of policies, which occurs in cycles. I am not across the board against conservative policies. I believe in fiscal responsibility. I prefer self reliance over.nanny statism. I don't like the ACA. Yet I am mortified by the idea of this man as president. I think you know this is not ordinary election sourness.

Exactly.

Oh, never mind...

I don't fault people for feeling acutely disappointed. They take their views seriously and as a result take elections seriously. It should of course not transform into pathology.

Triumphalism is a bad idea too though. I get that there is irony and turn about and all that, but let's be better. Be excited about a win, but remember- the people who are lashing out right now are your brothers and sisters. It's politics. Have a little compassion for people who feel some hurt. Offer a beer rather than a jibe. Maybe they wouldn't return the favor. Maybe they would. Regardless you'll be a better you if you offer a hand.

Terp not attacking or lecturing you. I remember how mean spirited some people were. The vast majority, once passions were cooled, went back to being rad people. For those that don't, that's their own personal hell, and you can always rightly fight to make sure it remains purely theirs.

I'm also concerned about Trump. I don't like ACA and the often overboard nanny state bs.

I posted previously that suspicion that Trump voters will outperform Democrats when actually going to the polls. Trump voters were motivated, some by anger, other by God, or both. That leads to a high turnout. Whereas Democrats were divided, still whining about Sanders, agonizing over the Clinton emails and the Democratic primaries. As I said, weak, weak, weak.

The pre-election polls were probably accurate. But it doesn't help when so-called Clinton supporters show at the polls at much lower numbers than Trump supporters. Some may not have shown because they felt Clinton was was going to win.

Sadly and ironically, Clinton won the popular vote but the the states votes.

No biggie. I should note that I didn't win, but after hearing all the smugness and lecturing about respect the first thing I see when I walk down Elmwood is an American flag flying upside down. Really? Normally, that wouldn't piss me off, but I'm human. What can I say?

I wouldn't interpret a single person's act as representative of anything or anyone else. Also, don't forget that you spend a lot of time and energy trashing America and Americans. You are no better or worse than everyone else.

Never said I was. I guess I'm just outraged by my perceived lack of outrage. I guess in the end we're all children. Childish acts like the other side are just dandy when our side does it.

Super.

Those people are protesting so the people will be heard. Those election results cannot stand!

here is the optimism for the future. someone posted this map to twitter of people 18-25 who voted

In line with the thought that Donald Trump is unhinged..............I have long felt that people with those kind of problems

who are well off enough can and do build their own little worlds. They can afford yes men and as long as they are

high functioning enough to avoid obviously disturbed behavior.........they live and function in their own world

However, the Presidency is no place to hide. Exposure is far to all encompassing a fact of life. He has run and

won...............but now he can't hide We will see

People are at their most liberal when young and progressively become, uh, less progressive as they age. It's not shocking that like the Boomers before them, the millenials pulled the country on balance left. They will be declining in left support as the generations before them did (see: Boomers).

Part of the way the left hoped to counter this was by bringing in new demographics- low income folks from outside the current voting pool. That almost happened but won't now.

Viewed from a historic vantage it is possible that you just saw the equivalent of a progressive Pickett's Charge. The high water mark of the left.

There's no absolute low water or high water mark in politics. The landscape changes. People speak fearfully or gleefully about an election or major event being some irrevocable turning point but it never is. The pendulum swings, things change, and thank god for it.

Well, actually, the states have spoken. But the people chose Hillary.

Wow.

Trump isn't Bush or McCain or Romney. I think women, Latinos, and Muslims in particular have legitimate reasons to feel some distress this morning.

Damn I'm 57. When is my change-over to being Trumpist?

can someone translate the theme of this thread? cause I don't get it.

Liberals should be mad at other liberals for being mad at conservatives, just like liberals were mad at conservatives for being mad at liberals 8 years ago.

The OP saw an upside down flag on Elmwood Avenue and assumes it is the home of a "Progressive" Hillary Clinton supporter very upset with the election result.

But maybe it's the home of a Libertarian Johnson supporter or a Jill Stein supporter who really thought their candidate had a shot.

If Brother Terp were not the OP some might think it was his house and the he permanently had the flag hanging upside down given his views of the State of the Nation.

It's yer classic libertarian above-it-all crap.

I do have some Facebook friends who changed their profile to an all black square. I am not going to do anything like that.

Come on, we know that it's not. Did the progressives ask all the people flying Gadsden flags to explain themselves and who they voted for? I don't think so.

Again, I personally have no problem with it. My icon here was the american flag w/ bananas instead of the star. But, then my panties didn't get in a wad 8 years ago when others used symbolism to show their dissatisfaction.

I just wondered if you would hold your own to the same standard. The answer is clear. Thanks!

You know that asking people to answer for something that someone else said (link?) 8 years ago is a little strange, right?

I don't even remember anything about Gadsden flags. But if I would have had any reaction it would have been puzzlement that after 8 years of Bush -Cheney, the last straw that would bring out the flag would be the election of Obama.
