Potential VP

For whoever you think the candidate will be, this thread is for discussions on who you think could be a good VP for that candidate and why.

While I would love to see Bernie as the candidate I am pretty sure that it will be Hillary.  For her running mate I think that she needs someone who can have that populist draw and a lean much further left.  She already has the center locked up but we want the new Bernie supporters to stick around.  I also would not want to take any current senators because we would then have to try to fill that seat.  So should we think of a scream and go Howard Dean?  Sure the scream will be played again and again, but could that really drive someone to Trump?

For Trump or Cruz, they should go Bachman or Palin.  If your selling point is to be Bat$hit crazy, why not double down.

Yes but he is an Ohio Senator and Ohio is not a sure seat for a Democrat.  Without good results in the Senate races her road to any results will be harder.

It would be interesting if they both chose Joe Lieberman, but not particularly realistic.  (Well, OK, as realistic as Dean, Bachman or Palin)

for the record, the Bachman or Palin thing was just a joke.  McCain can tell you that.  oh oh

Paging Chis Christie....Paging Chris Christie....

Someone who will be a good Vice President (like Joe Biden has been for President Obama)

Good choice, especially for Bernie people. And Ohio is important.

Strategy-wise, it's a terrible choice.  She needs every Senate vote she can get.

I am thinking Trump will ask Kasich -- before the convention.

Clinton --  I am guessing Warner from Va.  Would love Al Franken but better to keep him in the senate.

Al Gore. He has the experience.

yeah - didn't we already do this once when Obama pulled Kerry out of the senate?

Though I would love to see Brown do it.

I'm torn.

I like this choice wink

The last two are sillier than anything we could come up with.

Plus all of those with 1990s cars get to keep their bumper stickers.

This. Imagine Texas being a swing state.

Al Gore as running mate for Hillary? Ménage à Trois comes to mind.  Besides HRC seems to lean central right on the political spectrum so Sherrod Brown might be a good choice.

Yes, and filing an Ohio senate seat with a D is not guaranteed

Too many libs on this board! Can we consider GOP VP's too (apart from Palin and Bachmann). I'm going to lead with Little Marco, to groom him for 2020.

I'm afraid it's gonna take more than that.

No sitting senators, EVER AGAIN. Not even in safe blue states, because there's no such thing.

And for that matter, no governors. I can't say Katherine Sebelius could have kept Kansas from voting in another Republican governor by staying put instead of leaving for whatever cabinet post she took -- HHS, I think offhand -- but it surely didn't help.

Julian Castro is a great pick for Hillary (and it's not going to be Bernie but he'd be a smart pick for him, too), not because Texas would swing, but because he'll be fantastic for drawing young and Hispanic voters to help down-ticket (I agree with that Washington Post article: no one votes for (or against) the VP, generally -- but I think he brings excitement that will be needed). And because his relative youth will balance the ticket in every necessary way. Deval Patrick might also be a good choice. Corey Booker would not, both because he's a Senator, and because he needs more time in the Senate.

On the Republican side, I think an outsider (Trump) badly needs an insider, and Kasich makes a lot of sense. Rubio got his ass whipped in Florida's primary, so putting him on any ticket wouldn't make any sense to me. Christie might have appeal if Cruz is the nominee (northeast, allegedly able to work across aisle, allegedly moderate), but is two much of twinsies with Trump's personality (northeast bully) to make any sense there.

Kasich makes he most sense in a number of levels.  Which means of course that it won't be him, but still.

If the Republicans regain their sanity:

Per NYT, for Clinton:

Among the names under discussion by Mrs. Clinton, Mr. Clinton and campaign advisers: Senators Tim Kaine and Mark Warner, former governors from the key state of Virginia; Senator Sherrod Brown of Ohio, who represents both a more liberal wing of the party and a swing state; former Gov. Deval Patrick of Massachusetts, a prominent African-American Democrat; and Thomas E. Perez, President Obama’s labor secretary and a Hispanic civil rights lawyer.
But Mrs. Clinton is also open to a woman, campaign advisers said. One obvious possibility is Senator Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts ...
