Fr. Daniel Berrigan

I don't know if he's been as well known among the general public these days. I have at least one of his books, and always respected how he put his faith into practice.

Yes, this is in "All Politics", because, well, of some comments that might arrive.

Jesuit Fr. Daniel Berrigan, poet and peacemaker who was one of the most influential voices in shaping Catholic thinking about war and peace during the past century, died today. He was 94.

He was an inspirational man. RIP.

There area couple of posts in the "Dead" thread but he deserves his own  I remember him and his brother quite well

"This Friday, May 6, 2016, America Media will broadcast a video live stream of the funeral Mass of renowned peace activist and Jesuit priest, Daniel Berrigan, S.J. Fr. Berrigan taught at St. Peter's Prep in JC in the late 1940's. His legacy was discussed in many Prep classrooms yesterday.

Thumbs up, or whatever emoticon conveys the same thing.

In other words, that's fantastic to hear. Thank you for sharing that.

One wonders if they will actually put this on his headstone, as he suggested some years back: “It was never dull. Alleluia.”

What we seek, acting coolly, politically, out of the truth of our lives and tradition is to pull the mask of legitimacy from the inhuman and blind face of power. We seek at the same time, to open the eyes of more and more of our friends, to bring a larger community of resistance into being. We seek moreover to awaken to the facts of life, those Americans who continue to grasp at the straws of this or that political promise; and so put off, day after day, year after year, the saving act of resistance, allow innocent men to be imprisoned, guiltless men to be kicked out of America, good men to die.

But if even a few men say no, courageously, constantly, clear-sightedly, more men will be drawn to say no; fewer men likewise will continue to say yes, and so to lose their manhood, their soul, their brothers.

A report from Dan Berrigan's Funeral Mass. Fr. Steve Kelly, SJ, puckishly began his moving homily by saying, and I'm paraphrasing, "To all the FBI agents here: Yes, this is Dan Berrigan's Funeral Mass. So you can close his file now."
