Awesome!  Spread the word!

All in for Hillary- time to get out the vote in Maplewood. Send me a message if you want to go door to door this Sat (5/21) or Sunday (5/22). Make difference now - just a few hours on either day. Meeting at my house noon Saturday and 1 pm Sunday. This is an official Hillary campaign event. Its now or never. Spread the word.

Anyway to block these calls?  Is there, perhaps, a do not call list that I can be added to?

Are there any Hillary rallies planned for NJ in which she'll be appearing? Thanks.

Another pro-banking Clinton thread.

A Church seems like a strange setting for a partisan political event.  I assume they are compensated for the use of their facility?  How much does something like this go for?

I would guess no charge and maybe they tip the person who has to lock up.

I do not know of rallies yet. Those get scheduled at the last minute. Fundraisers are planned well in advance, but not the free rallies.  Here is a link that is constantly updated. It is where I saw a notice for a NYC rally (free) posted just before their election. https://hillaryspeeches.com/scheduled-events/

So, if the Trump folks want to put in their phone bank, they will be equally availing?

doesn't that potentially compromise its tax exemption?

That was my question as well.

why would it compromise their tax exemption.  They are not endorsing a candidate and if no charge they are not profiting.

If they were charging for the use of their facilities THAT would be ok.  The fact that they are donating the use of their facilities to a partisan campaign, free of charge, would seem to violate their tax exempt status.   Tax exempt religious organizations are not allowed to materially  support a specific candidate.

Of course, all of this begs the question.  Is the HRC campaign paying for the use of the space?  Not doing so would seem like a pretty rookie move.

And if AA uses their space...

Oh never mind.

Today they will be calling from SO, come out and show your support!

AA is not partisan.  This is pretty basic stuff, the separation of Church and State.  Tellingly, none of the HRC folks seem to be willing to answer the question.

Churches have to be very careful, both about supporting campaigns as well as about making profits.  So, they probably should charge a reasonable fee that would cover custodial or other costs, but not a lot more.  My church (which is more conservative on this than the law requires) only allows other nonprofits to use the space, with a nominal building use charge.

Has it occurred to you that maybe no one really knows the answer?

If you feel there's an issue file a complaint with the IRS or whatever other agency would be concerned about this.

I'm not an expert on non profit law, but if permitting partisan campaigns to use your facilities was an issue, then Rutgers (and other colleges) would be in big trouble for permitting Sanders rallies. Since that strikes me as unlikely, I suspect  the rule has to do with equal access. But again, I'm not an expert.

I think Klinker would care less if it were her/his candidate.

Klinker has been berned.   Nice.

What's with all this phone stuff anyway?  I thought Hillary was big into email.

It's not permitting them to use it, it's permitting them to use it for free that's a problem or without affording all other candidates an equal opportunity (this is an oversimplification).  See  https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/p1828.pdf

Who said anyone else was denied?   Although I'd be shocked if anyone at St Andrews supported Trump

do a little questioning before you rampantly speculate, I've been there before - and don't know the answer.  We use our own cell phones, and as far as I've seen no one blocks their caller ID.

Considering that church people support has been the backbone of many candidates campaigns, both democrats and republicans, it's a good reminder to be cognizant of this, and what the line might be.

Churches involved in politics? I am shocked, shocked!

I'm not.   Just trying to provide some information about the rules.   And, it would not just be Trump, but Bernie, Jill Stein, and others, too.
