Donald Trump's Giant Convention Con

Amidst all of the smoke, mirrors, sex scandals, hand and pecker size comparisons, there are still only two things that matter.  A candidate must have 1,237 delegates to win the nomination of their party for POTUS.  Of the 538 votes in the Electoral College, at least half plus one -- 270 -- are required to officially win the Presidency.

Donald Trump has a shockingly high disapproval rating among women.  It is now at 50 percent.  Trump will likely do nothing to turn that around.  Trump's long history about the way he relates to women speaks for itself.  Trump is a disgusting boor.  He is a classless low life with money.  His more recent jabs about Hillary's rest room visit and Megyn Kelly's bodily fluids were repulsive.  But, of course, he wasn't stopping there.  In the latest Trump/Cruz sex scandal duel, I found myself stinging when Trump threatened to "expose" Ted Cruz' wife, Heidi.  As much as I dislike Cruz, I had a visceral reaction to the bully Trump threatening to destroy a woman, with small innocent children no less,  in that fashion.

From my perspective, it does not matter whether a woman is a Republican, Democrat, Independent, or whatever when a cretin like Trump belittles and insults them.  It's because many, if not most women, have had that experience. We relate and we don't like it.  We don't want our daughters, our mothers, aunts, sisters, grandmothers and friends disrespected and discounted in this fashion.

Contrary to what seems like the consensus of the punditry I do not think Trump will win the nomination.

I hope you are right.   But is there an acceptable alternative hiding somewhere?

Acceptable to whom? Certainly not to you or I who will be voting for the Democrat.

But to Republicans who can't stand Trump any alternative is acceptable.

He will not win the nomination because he will have nowhere near enough support among the actual, real human delegates who will be present at the convention in Cleveland. Remember: The primaries have ZERO teeth. They are just for show. The delegates are assigned at the state conventions—irrespective of primary results. For example, even though DT won the primaries in Louisiana and Georgia, the state conventions in those states did not award him the majority of delegates. And it is all perfectly legal. Trump and his team just don't know how it works, so they are asleep at the wheel.
