Christie to receive Criminal Summons

A New Jersey judge on Thursday issued a criminal summons for Gov.
Chris Christie in connection to his role in the George Washington Bridge
scandal.

Judge Roy McGeady issued a probable cause summons for Christie,
saying there’s evidence to show he might have known aides were up
political shenanigans and did nothing to top it.

“Defendant Christopher J. Christie knowingly refrained from ordering
that his subordinates take all necessary action to reopen local access
lanes to the George Washington Bridge from Fort Lee, New Jersey, that
had been closed with purposed to injure Fort Lee Mayor Mark Sokolich,
along with Fort Lee residents who were deprived of the benefit and
enjoyment of their community as a consequence of this intentional evil
minded act taken by public officials acting on the authority vested in
them by the Office of the Governor of the State of New Jersey,”
according to Brennan’s complaint.

Is it wrong to smile when I read this?

Is this a stunt or is the proper judicial conduct?

Leaving aside the way the NY Post words things -

The judge heard an application that there was "probable cause" to refer the matter to the County Prosecutor. That was based on testimony that's been presented in the Bridgegate trial. It seems proper that, based on sworn testimony that's been cross-examined, that a referral for further investigation could be made.

The judge added that, since the County Prosecutor is an appointee of potential defendant Christie, the matter should be considered by a Grand Jury for a determination.

3 and a half years too late

It's in many other newspapers also, I just figured a Murdoch publication might have some credibility to those on the right.

I look forward to the pile-on that will follow if Trump is as soundly defeated as polls currently project. Christie will have very few friends as Republicans hunt down those responsible for the Trump debacle.

Christie is done. So done.

The only remaining question is whether he serves a full term or resigns early.

The Christie appointed prosecutor can fail to indict and a superior court judge can overturn the municipal judge's summons.

Simply, to paraphrase Dylan on this great day,

This ain't goin' nowhere.

If Christie resigned and Kim Guadagno became governor it would totally change the 2017 gubernatorial race.

Guadagno's persona is nothing like Christie's and she could start to escape from unpopular policies of Christie's she doesn't agree with.

Would she be beatable? Sure. But it would be a harder contest for Murphy than it looks like it'll be now.

It's important to keep the heat on Christie, even if it is too late. Don't forget, he's the man Trump has hand-picked to select members of his transition team and probably members of his cabinet and agency heads. If some catastrophe should befall us and Trump is elected, Christie has the experience to be the brass-knuckled thug that will lead the destruction of American democracy.

I can't imagine Trump winning, but if he did and appointed Christie to be AG it would immediately be an immensely controversial nomination.

All the usual rules of politics have been suspended this year anyway and Trump has no shame, but in the old days at least appointing a suspected criminal as chief law enforcement officer would look really, really bad.

She's been taking heat this week for announcing that she will not be voting for Trump, so that gives her some credibility.

At this point, there is no reason for her to kowtow to Christie. He is damaged goods on a state and national level. She's being smart by creating space between her and Christie.

Immensely controversial actions have never bothered Trump, or for that matter, the Republicans.
