Bored or Disgusted?

It's surprising to log on to MOL, go to Soapbox-Politics and see that no one has posted for almost 24 hours.

Where are the usual suspects? Has everyone gone on vacation and left their computers at home or has the Presidential contest just become too boring or too disgusting?

I think everything has been said. I'm just waiting for the debate. Things might pick up after that. Or perhaps after Trump's immigration speech tomorrow. But overall, I think the community accepts that Trump is nuts - and there's no clear alternative to Hillary.

Or having a lot of trouble logging in after the update and/or not in love with new format?

The outsider's view is it's surprising (and blessedly quiet) that for almost a second week we've heard of no new outrage from Mr Trump's campaign. Which, of course, leaves us to flounder under the absurdities of burkini bans (what about caftans and leggings? Hippy headscarves? '50s headscarves and maxi skirts? Wetsuits? Wetsuits with tutus?), and our own embarrassing political farce.

-truly despairing over what passes for civic literacy these days.

I think it's yer classic last-week-of-summer thang. The major talking heads on TV are off this week as well.

I remember, back in my teaching days, that this was a week of quiet desperation and where-the-heck-did -summer-go? anxiety. The challenges of a new season soon reinvigorate the soul.

Lived my life in semesters from 1956 (kindergarten) -2008 (retirement).

Still can feel the ebb and flow of the seasons...no, I'm not on acid. Just being reflective.

Like the clean new MOL look.

I loved teaching! What was your subject?

I'm just waiting for somebody to start a 2017 NJ gubernatorial primary thread.

Or something more local, like who is running for those 3 seats on the South Orange Board of Trustees, Spring 2017.

The newest and most interesting thing is that Trump is going to Mexico tomorrow to meet with Mexico's president. At least that's what he says.

English/theater arts/video production - also loved it; every fall was a new adventure.

I taught art but did interdisciplinary teaching in Social Studies and English ( High School.) Worked closely with those departments and loved working on theater productions.

Sorry folks for the thread drift.

He's going, Hillary has yet to respond.

Big chance for Trump to be a 'Statesman', without being a 'flip-flopper', or double down and be schmuck by 'winning'.

Should be some indication of his choice in today's speech.

Mexican commentators have observed that the two most unpopular men in Mexico are going to meet. I am hard-pressed to understand what's in this for either of them. I don't see Trump becoming a voice of reason on immigration any time soon.

Trust me, he is not going to look like a "statesman". This is a Hail Mary pass that is going to fail.

What's the Hail Mary possibility? An agreement from the President of Mexico to pay for the wall.

My older sister belongs to a group of retirees who go out to brunch on the first day of school each year.

Thread drift? Are you new here? smile

Amazing. Surprised he's summoned up the courage to meet a potentially adversary audience, unlike his Af Am "outreach" to white audience. Hmmm...is this Kellyanne or the Breitbart guy?

Maybe he's going for the Tacos.

( : I know what I think of Murphy, Sweeney, and Fulop. I can't wait to hear what other people think of them, so I look forward to somebody else starting a thread about them.

(sincerely)

Priceless Rob Reiner line:

After news broke on Tuesday that Trump was meeting with Mexico President Enrique Peña Nieto, Reiner turned those words back on the Republican candidate.

“Clearly we’re not sending our best to Mexico,” Reiner tweeted. “We’re sending liars. We’re sending narcissists. We’re sending sociopaths.”

nah. Trump Tower has the best tacos.

I'm a fan of Senator Ray Lesniak.

Latest poll shows, in a 4 way race, Hillary loses 6 points and Trump gains 4 - a 10 point swing in his favor after a disastrous month for him. He is now only 2 points behind her.

Hillary's negative rating climbs to new high.

Trump goes to Mexico, sounds 'Presidential'.

Comes home, gives a stem winder that should guarantee he loses any chance of getting a decent share of the Hispanic vote which he needs to win the election.

How can you be bored watching them play 'Here, you take it'?
