Bill.Clinton Attacked in Philadelphia for destructive crime bills

Bill was overwhelmed in Philadelphia by protesters for his destructive approach to crime, for "superpredators" in the African American community. Hillary had supported his approach.

What did Sanders vote?

Bill seemed to handle himself pretty well, actually. It's not this is his first rodeo.

What did Sanders vote?

Here's a good summary of that. His history was as complicated as the bills, but he was always fighting for a ban on semi-automatic weapons.

He supported that bill (and that Bill), just like Hillary.

You've been spending an awful lot of energy chastising people for "not doing their homework."

Hillary attacked Bernie for "not doing his homework." She's apparently your gold standard for proper behavior, right? Not knowing Hillary has been a flip-flopper for forty years, when it's been obvious to some of us out here that she's been hypocritical, self-righteous, self-congratulatory, some of us find her unqualified.

LOL  This is a man "overwhelmed" by protestors?  A man who is overwhelmed by protestors wants them removed, responds by telling others to "punch them in the face" and never gives a real response. This man handled them with grace and class and welcomed the debate.

springgreen2 - I am tired of reading your idiotic comments. Write something honorable or stop posting!!!

Thanks. Do you have an opinion on the primaries? What is it?

That's great. Just note that the intent of this thread was to illustrate that Bill was attacked and "overwhelmed" in Philly. He wasn't. The other intent was to note that Hillary supported that awful Bill. She did. As did Bernie.

I said he was overwhelmed because he never got past the outrage over the effects of his legislation. And saying Bernie supported it is an oversimplification.

Bill Clinton spoke the truth: "He responded to them, saying, "you are defending the people who killed the lives you say matter. Tell the truth."

Too bad so few have the courage to do so.

He voted "Yes" on it twice, which IMO simplifies things quite a bit.

Look you are all opposed to Sanders. you are rigid and cruel to me. I have no more to say to any of you. Bill and Hill are your demigods. I'm outta here.

Yes, bills are complicated things. Bernie knows that. He voted for it. And he says he voted for it because he thought there was an assault weapons ban. (Which there wasn't.) But that bill included the hyper-aggressive sentencing that we are still paying for. And he still voted for it.

All you had to say was, "Oh s**t! I didn't realize he voted for it. I wish he hadn't, but I still support his candidacy."

I don't like Hillary's support of the bill and I in particular don't like her penchant toward military action. But I'll be voting for her.

No candidate is perfect.

In your opinion. B'bye.

You are a delight.

Don't make promises you can't keep.

I think, when looking at the time the bill was put into law (1994?) and what was happening then,  you have to remember that drugs were a scourge and the common sense idea was to make the law hard so there would be less use and abuse.   Unfortunately the unintended (or maybe there were some who foresaw and applauded) consequence was the prison industrial complex and the incarceration of far too many for non violent, personally self destructive actions.

We need that law to be revised or even repealed, but vilifying the Clintons for what happened then doesnt take into account that most people affected by crime and drugs at the time were all for it.

Bill Clinton himself was not eloquent enough here,  he should have said that they thought it was a good idea at the time and that the law had immediate good affects but in the long run it was bad and not the best solution to the problem.

But he didnt.   He tried to defend his legacy and that is where I think he made a mistake.

I think Bill Clinton's response was perfect. Shows why he was the success he was.

heres another take on the issue -

but having zoinks disagree with me is a very good indicator.

Even with the blemish of having launched an illegal attack on Serbia Bill Clinton is my favorite Democrat.

That's funny, he's my favorite republican.

MOL can always use multiple points of view (even when I disagree with some of these other POVs regularly).

You may want to think about how to better communicate with others.  And how to deal with the fact that some will attack your POV (or even you) because they disagree with you (or attack merely because they don't like your tone). However, if you are really determined to say good bye, then good bye it is.

1. She is not going to change. (Maybe her screen name, but not the way she communicates).

2. She will be back.

Yup.  She's been doing the same petulant child thing, off and on, for 15 years.  I just stop reading it and eventually she gets banned or goes away for another reason.
