Anthony Weiner

Mayor? Really?

Not sure what he brings to the table.

Christine Quinn seems more like the kind of outlandish character which suits the office of Mayor of New York.

I'm a lifelong resident of New Jersey, but the NYC mayor does affect the life of people such as myself.

Can't get hyped up on this. And I don't care about the NY state governor either. Talk to me about New Jersey.

He is why people hate politicians. He's an egotistical, delusional douche.

In this day and age, reputations can be lost, and then regained, in an instant.

It seems a bit too soon, to me, for him to throw his hat (or his shirt) into the ring, but I guess I'm just old school.

I'd like to see some reason for redemption other than that a few months have passed and he has a new Twitter account.

Well, as I wrote, the NYC mayor does affect us in our little town on the NYC train line.

How?

If you don't knw, I cannot explain it to you.

I think he'd be a great mayor

Christine Quinn for Mayor of NYC ! snake

He runs, he gets to spread $4.3MM around in campaign cash. He doesn't, he has to give it back. This is a no brainer for this egotiscal , narcissistic, morally bankrupt liar.

Why not his hat AND his shirt? He's already thrown his pants.

(OK, cheap shot.)

Among Democrats I can't tolerate, Weiner and Rahm Emmanuel now top the list (I'm sure there are others, but today they are at the top).

Though I'd probably choose Christine Quinn, I'm not nuts about her either.

It's like an episode of Scandal.

Think Koch, Guliani, Bloomberg... If you're right he'll fit right in as Mayor.

And he got a raw deal, there are plenty of scumbag politicians who did much worse and get reelected time and again.

Like that shirtless guy who also resigned, and like so many who've humiliated themselves with the relatively-new Twitter machine, someone needs to take away the smart phone. When you're so proud of that trouser trout, you shouldn't be able to photo it and send it out so easily.

You might stop and think if you had to sit atop the Xerox machine and then find a stamp.

I'm with mjh on Quinn's candidacy.

Bloomberg is correct that it will be easy for a guy like Weiner to pull in Lindsey and bankrupt the city by being nice to his union friends. But that risk goes for just about all of the Democratic candidates. The Twitter stuff did not change my opinion of Weiner, which was already rock bottom. I just thought it all could not have happened to a more deserving person.

You just gotta love New York City. Never a dull moment.

Weak field for NYC mayor . Quinn will have made far to many promises to special intrest by the time she gets elected .Ray Kelley would be the next mayor if he decided to run but I think he is going to resign the day Quinn is sworn in.

Christine Quinn? Ugh, that's just another term for Bloomberg. I just hope the DeBlasio can push her into an October run-off.

Weiner's a non-entity in this race.

Quinn? the same Quinn who sold out and agreed to give Bloomberg a 3rd term in return for his support (which does not seem to be happening).
A very weak field and I figure Wiener jumped at the change knowing that if it goes to a runoff he has a shot.

I guess you don't knw either. Or maybe you are too sophisticated a New Yorker to splain things. Don't bother. I find this thread boring.

This is Weiner's play: he's got $4-5 mil to spend. It gets him, say, 10-12% of the vote. Enough to force a run-off between the top two. He then dickers with the two run-off contenders and promises to support one in return for a job or support in the future. Voila!! He's back in the game. He's setting himself up for the next election.

How popular is he in New York?
What's his "base'.
Quinn has the Gays and pro-Bloomberg establishment. Thompson has the Blacks. Di Blasio seems to have the Left.

What % of residents of our Town spend five days a week all day long in NYC?
What % visit NYC for recreation on a regular basis. To a very great extent Maplewood and South Orange are "Bedroom Communities" for NYC.

He's an outer-borough guy who will hurt DeBlasio. He's polling quite well.

mrmaplewood requires some 'splainin...
A healthy portion of our town's value is tied to NYC. When NYC is fiscally healthy with a good financial sector and good job growth, SO and Maplewood thrive. Our home values would shrink if the mid-town direct went away. Most people on my street lived in Manhattan or Brooklyn at some point. This is very very simple.

And Weiner is a douchebag - I'd likely vote for Quinn.

I will be able to vote in NYC this September. I better start some reading.

Woot and LOST, there is also the fact that many of us grew up in NYC or lived there. Many of us have family there. I grew up there and am the only one who lives in New Jersey currently.
