A Deal: Too Good to Go Restaurant App

I could never wait until that late at night to eat dinner, that’s just me, but what a great idea for quick lunches for the next day.

Yup, their leftovers became our leftovers.

It's amazing.  Super cheap and helps prevent the wasting of food.

This is what Danny Meyer has been doing through "Second Harvest" (aka, "City Harvest") for decades.  Guess someone figured out how to make this work online.

20 years ago, when my son was living "on the road" for a few years, he was traveling with lots of kids who had been wait staff or bussed tables, and they'd been sickened by how much food they had to throw away every day.  They kept themselves fed in those days by hanging around restaurants at closing time -- and eat like royalty.  In their minds, they were helping to save food from going into the trash.

Not a new idea, but a great one.  Any saved food is a blessing to many.

 

I mean, come on. Tonight’s Too Good To Go leftovers from Roman, for $5. (Mostly obscured under the sausage and ricotta slices are two plain and two tomato and garlic slices.)

Yesterday, from Yellow Rose, $6 for a pair of chocolate cupcakes and a cinnamon roll, all delicious, and a yet-untried pizza focaccia slice.

Depends on the restaurant. Roman was 8:45-9 p.m. Yellow Rose, at least on Saturday, was 8 a.m. to noon. (My wife and I split the cinnamon roll with our morning coffee and had the cupcakes after dinner.) I think they had an afternoon pickup today.

All the pizza places are latish, closing time pick ups so unless your eating at 10 pm, you're saving it for next day or later.  Other places tend to be earlier.

Another follow-up: Last night the Roman offering was a bag of four slices. No complaints — still a deal for $5, and I’m glad Roman minimized the leftovers on what was probably a busy summer weekend — but I guess it goes to show the range of quantity, depending on the night.

Perhaps the more popular the app gets, the less generous the restaurants will be.

Patiently waiting for this to make it to Ohio....

I downloaded the app. I’ll keep an eye out for offers as they come up. As noted earlier it’s heavy on the pizza joints. My family are not fans of specialty pizza slices so I think adoption maybe be limited at first.
