Students Robbed While Walking to Columbia High School

My child was one of the victims yesterday morning. If you have a student walking to school down Parker Ave to Columbia, read this article and inform your child.

I hope they're ok. I'll reserve my opinion on the worthless POS thugs, given the MOL posting rules will inevitably block most of it out.

There was actually a second incident yesterday around the same time and in the same area. Attempted robbery. No weapon was shown and the students were able to ignore the assailants threats. Police are investigating: http://villagegreennj.com/police-and-fire/chs-students-report-attempted-robbery-second-thursday-morning-incident/

It's hard to comprehend that the two students in the second incident were threatened with their lives in the morning but did not report the incident until that night. Did they not think the person was serious?

Physically fine....lost some faith in humanity though. High School is hard enough without someone threatening to kill you on the way to school.

You seem like a very compassionate person. Are you implying it was a joke?

Buzzsaw - I'm so sorry to hear about what happened. Glad that everyone is physically okay - I can only imagine how upsetting the experience must have been for the kids. Nobody deserves that and I hope MPD is able to catch these guys soon.

Sickening. Glad your kid wasn't hurt.

I'm so sorry to hear this happened.

I had a similar experience (a couple of years ago) and it took a good amount of time to get past feeling vulnerable, jumpy, and nervous when out and about. I still have some remnants of it, in fact, but not much.

I live in the area and wondered if they hurried to school to report the incident or went to a nearby house. When I drove down Buckingham Gardens Parkway it was around that time and the area was deserted. I wish I had been there to run down those *****.

Sending PVs to your child. Being robbed is horrible and as others have written it takes time to feel safe again.

Buzzsaw - so sorry this happened to your child - terrible thing to happen. It's shocking really.

Not at all. To the contrary, it's an extremely serious matter. I'm glad the kids are safe but I'm struggling with why they would wait until the end of the day to say something.

Maybe because they were 13-year-old middle schoolers who go to CHS only for first period math, don't feel particularly comfortable there, and were not mature enough to know better. Hopefully they'll know what to do better the next time they are a crime victim.

Please allow me to be more specific and clarify..... I think there are some important lessons for us (meaning the adults) to learn if our kids don't feel comfortable coming to us when things like this happen.

I wouldn't assume they didn't feel comfortable. From the description given (I realize it's not much), they didn't take it seriously, didn't feel threatened and therefore didn't see a need to report it.

I agree it should have been reported, and that message would be a good thing to impress upon our kids.

They did report it. Just not quickly enough to satisfy some yahoos.

If they reported it soon after it happened the police would have had a chance to catch the perps. This has nothing to do with satisfying "yahoos."

There were two incidents the same morning, same area. One involved older kids, high school students, who promptly reported it and the police came. Second one involved younger kids, middle schoolers, who did not report it promptly, however, that did not impact the police investigation as the police had already been to the scene quickly to investigate.
