Star Ledger -Unclaimed Property archived

does anyone have experience with this? my name and address appear in the list in today's star ledger. when i go to the website though i'm not on the list.

Why not call the Star Ledger?

It is a legal ad that the lEdger accepts, so I doubt they have any info. You could try the NJ treasury Dept. The online database is updated monthly. Perhaps the printed listed is the pre-database info... i.e. The info will appear in the next online update. But yes, it is legit. I go to the database every few months, type in names of people I know, and usually get several hits . I have gotten money back from an insurance premium overpayment refund that I never cashed. I have colleagues who have gotten anywhere from $75 to $1000 back.

Suzanne, Do you have a link to the database?

https://www1.state.nj.us/TYTR_UPSearch/servlet/Common/UpSearch

I found a bunch for family and friends recently too. None for me though :-((

Thanks spontaneous . Also, http://www.missingmoney.com. Or http://www.unclaimedproperty.NJ.gov

Sorry, was typing these from memory, and of course they were wrong, have now been corrected.

Sorry there was nothing for you, spontaneous , but the township has listings, as do several local nonprofits, like the historical society, EiES, first aid squad, etc.

Thanks, but I'm sure I don't have any missing money out there. The only way I would have unknown funds would be if someone else started an account for me without my knowledge. I found funds for my deceased Great Aunt that was apparently from the late 1910's to early 1920's, which was probably from her parents, so I guess it is possible. There is apparently no time limit on how long they will hold the money for you, which is nice. Some other states claim it as their own after a certain number of years, or so I have been told.

You never know. Th fund also includes utility deposits, tax checks, refund checks, etc. If you every put a deposit to set up a utility, and then never claimed it when you moved, it would be there.

Click on the link for:
State of NJ- Department of the Treasury - Unclaimed Property

Click on: Search
Enter your last name in the search field, for a broader search I do not add the first name.

I know where every penny I have is, so I never find my name in any of these things! grin)

That was very helpful info Suzanne. Although I did not have a listing now I know where to check.

I was fooling around on the NJ state website and found my name there, filed some papers and rec'd a $90.00 check from a hospital bill refund years ago.
