South Orange pool question

Since I moved to the town a few months ago, this is my first year going to the pool. While I love the grounds and the layout and the water and the train whistling by, I was wondering what is up with some of the facilities. Specifically, the crumbling concrete on the deck around the large pool, as well as the decaying old locker/bathrooms. Who is responsible for maintaining this, and why isn't it maintained? As I said, the pool by and large is wonderful, which makes the neglect in these areas really stand out.

The pool is managed by the town through the Baird Center. They can answer your questions/concerned or you can talk to one of the managers at the pool, just ask one of the staff who the manager on duty is.

The bathrooms have been in a state of decrepitude as long as I've been going to the pool. I've lived in South Orange for almost 12 years. I try not to have to use the facilities when I'm at the pool -- but if I have to, I just remind myself how much less I'm paying to use my town pool than Maplewood folks pay to use theirs... As for "crumbling concrete," I've never noticed any, not sure what the OP is referring to.

As a Maplewood resident, I'd gladly trade the right to join my pool for the right to join yours. Your pool is a great gift in terms of price/performance.

I've found the bathrooms/locker room to be much nicer than the ones at my friends' public pool in Westchester, so I'm not going to complain. In fact, they commented on it when they visited. I haven't noticed any crumbling concrete either. I love the pool, I think it's one of the best things about South Orange.

Lockers are crappy and old but what can you do, I'm sure it would cost a pretty penny to refurbish or renovate.

Would you be willing to pay a surcharge on top of your very low pool membership dues to fund this?

I would contribute to a voluntary fundraising effort to provide some capital improvements.

Same here.
