Thanks for the reminder!! I was pleasantly surprised that 24 moved okay this morning, as usually there's spillover traffic from SO Ave delays. Kinda dreading the ride home though...
Does anyone know whether "to Thursday, July 23rd" means it will be closed on Thursday, all day?
The sign on So Orange Ave says Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday this week and next, I think

The signs on SO Avenue at Wyoming Avenue say "Closed except Residents" or something like that. I suppose you could hike with your dog up to the dog park to find out. If anyone is hiking up there and learns something one way or another, perhaps they could post here and let us know.

I went today, and took the back way up to Glenview, then to the light and a left on SO Ave. It was fine. I'm not sure you can get through the barriers for the direct route.

There was a police officer there when I went by earlier and I suspect he might have challenged anyone trying to go through. (I was just trying to get from Gregory/Wyoming over to Wyoming to get back to Maplewood from West Orange, so it wasn't an issue for me.)

Do you think I would be able to bike up to the reservation?

I would think so, but I guess I can't read the police officers' minds on this.
I called both Maplewood and South Orange non-emergency police numbers to inquire about whether it was open. I was met with surprisingly rude responses from both departments - Maplewood: Put on hold, then a brusque "Call South Orange, it's their jurisdiction" preceding a hang up; South Orange: "I don't know. I don't think so." Which is it? Why was I being treated like an annoyance?
I understand the county is providing security personnel, but I feel I deserve to be treated a little more politely by our local PDs.
Good to know the S-curves are open now since we need to go that way tomorrow afternoon.
Yes they are open, but be aware that if you then take Pleasant Valley toward Verona, it's closed at Eagle Rock, for paving I think.

Not defending the lack of politeness... but it is a county project and they are not just providing security, but in charge of the whole thing. Try Essex County Sheriff's Dept: (973) 324-9750
If you look at a map of Maplewood the s-curves are contained within the town's borders. Claiming it's South Orange's or the County's jurisdiction is just lazy. They should be able to answer questions about road closures within the Town.
Here is the first sentence of their Mission Statement:
"The mission of the Maplewood Police Department is to serve and safeguard all persons within the Township in a fair, safe, professional and considerate manner consistent with the law and established goals of the community."

South Orange Avenue is a County Road, and as such is under Essex County jurisdiction. However, both Maplewood and South Orange should be providing information on the closures to their residents on their respective web sites.

I got at least one, maybe more, of those Maplewood Township emails about it.
Maplewood does have s-curve closure information on their website and has been sending out e-mails as reminders to those who have subscribed to such messages. I believe the s-curve messages came from the engineering department.
All I wanted was information and to be treated with courtesy. I received neither from Maplewood or South Orange police departments.

South Orange Avenue between Cherry Lane/Brookside Drive and Wyoming Avenue will be closed to vehicular traffic from Tuesday, July 21st to Thursday, July 23rd and Tuesday, July 28th to Thursday, July 30th.
