So political correctness costs a lot of people their jobs. But that is ok since it maintains the dogma

So a well known male lead leaves a Broadway show and is replaced by a lesser known actor who happens to be African American. Business declines sharply and, as is common, the show plans to replace the male lead with a well known star to try to juice ticket sales. But since the male lead who is going to replaced is African American everyone goes crazy over the change. Big star pulls out, show "apologizes" but since business is tanking show announces it is closing. Everyone loses their job. Politically correct left is ecstatic over its "victory",

Where in the article does it say: Politically correct left is ecstatic over its "victory"?  Are all Broadway plays PC left?

It is not the people in the play. They are the soon to be unemployed victims. But it is the politically correct left that picked on and exploited this situation to everyone's detriment but their own. The politically correct left scored points and a large number of people lost their job and may never have an opportunity like it again.

Or maybe the play wasn't very good.

Didn't see it but reviews were good. But it wasn't exactly a tourist type of play which is why it needed a big name to attract an audience.

It was excellent. It earned 12 Tony nominations, more than any other production of the season. We saw it last Saturday and loved it.

I don't get the purpose of this post. Sometimes attendance declines after the star lead departs. The article actually doesn't offer any explanation other than the departure of Ingrid somebody. And who are these "politically correct" people? You mean the theater community? Well where have u been? Lastly If the theater audience is not feeling cast replacements within a well reviewed play, then aren't they somewhat responsible for closing a great play? Mandy showed a lot of class here by the way.

Had the politically correct crowd not put the hit on Mandy, he likely would have brought in enough people for the show to run longer and for all the people involved to stay employed.

Not as pithy as the OP, but it provides some context:

That's just speculation.  Sales in August are likely slow and Comet already outperforms many other Broadway shows.  Maybe the show sold too many investor shares to little old ladies and this is a convenient excuse to bow out?

Due to tourists August is not slow anymore.

You'll never be a Producer.

Such an easy whipping boy those "politically correct people "  You would think they would wear masks or live in foxholes. but then where would the fox live? And what is the plural of fox?   Just so much of which to complain. Life was easier in the Eisenhower years.  And very much more dull.

I'm one of the leaders of the politically correct left and this issue was never brought up at our last meeting.

We're too busy creating fake news to pay attention to how the Gays & Jews, especially the Gay Jews, are destroying the theatrical arts.

he sees liberal demons around every corner. They surround him, sapping his vital essence. He must lash out.

You are all showing that you do find scoring points is more important to you than peoples jobs.

Sorry I'm too busy laughing at your theory that entertainment producers are putting "political correctness" ahead of making money.

They didn't initially. That is why they hired a star to rescue their show. The whole issue is that then they were FORCED to by the wrath of the politically correct.

Lesson to producers - don't hire an African American in the first place because you will be burned by the wrath of the politically correct if it does not work out and you need to make a change. Take the safe route and you will be better off.

that's just your biased and overly simplistic explanation.

Nope. Just the facts of the situation. Show tries to save itself as shows often do by bringing in a star. Politically correct crowd goes crazy because actor to be replaced is African American. Star is put in a bind and pulls out to save his reputation among the politically correct crowd. Left with no option show closes. Everyone involved is out of work and politically correct crowd is ecstatic at its "victory".

just repeating something over and over doesn't make it true.

the show didn't close because of "political correctness."  It closed because ticket sales were cratering before the producers bungled a Hail Mary cast change.  Even if there had been no reaction to the recast, it's about 99% certain the show would have closed anyway.

The bring in a string of stars approach they were going to take likely would have allowed the show to run through the end of the year. That would have been additional 3+months of paychecks for everyone.

And even if bringing in a star was a "hail Mary" that could have failed, it was absolutely the producers right to try it rather than see certain failure.

Other than the argument itself, what force was applied?

It was clear that anyone who did not cave would not be allowed to work in that industry ever again.

so you're saying if Mandy Patinkin took that role, he'd never work on Broadway again.

Okey-doke.

Absolutely. And maybe not Hollywood either. He'd have gone from being an insider to being Tim Allen'ed in a heartbeat.

So you're saying that when the show closes everyone is guaranteed to work again.

news flash -- Tim Allen was hired for a TV series that ran for years and just ended (which people might not know from the right wing snowflakes' whining over its inevitable cancellation.)  And he's been voicing a character in the Toy Story franchise for decades.  Any actor would be fortunate to be "Tim Allened".
