Seeking Ocassional Lawn Mowing

Does anyone know of someone that can do occasional lawn mowing this summer.  We're probably looking for an individual vs. one of the big services, but all leads appreciated.  Thanks!

If you live in Maplewood and want to hire a landscaper to do do lawn work, you are limited to selecting one of the landscaping companies registered with the town. There is a listing of these firms on Maplewood's official town website.  If you live in Maplewood and are considering a firm not on the list, I would check with the town first since the listing may not be fully up to date.  If you do not live in Maplewood, this listing may be a good place to start.

Thank you for info. Didn't realize I was limited to a list of providers.

Went to web site but cannot find that listing. Tried FAQs - had a few dozen answers to questions but nothing about a list of providers.

The ordinance:

Listing of Registered Landscapers and ordinance implementation information from the town website:

Has Your Landscaper Registered To Work In Maplewood?

Commercial lawn maintenance businesses must register with the Township’s Public Works Department by March 1st. There is a $50 registration fee per business and a fee of $50 per truck used to haul leaves shall be charged. Each registered truck shall post a sticker on the front driver side panel of the truck. The landscaper must list the types of leaf blowers used. Landscapers are prohibited from using leaf
blowers with a decibel rating of greater than 65 dB(a) between May 1st through October 15th.

The following landscapers have registered:
 LEROYS LANDSCAPING
 D’ONOFRIO & SON
 ALAN BELLA
 SCALORA LANDSCAPING
 EXPRESS LAWN CARE
 ANTHONY’S LANDSCAPING
 DEAN WEISS
 FONSRIVER LANDSCAPING
 TKJ LANDSCAPING
 SALAZAR & SONS LANDSCAPING
 GATTO LANDSCAPING
 RICK D’ADDARIO LANDSCAPE
 ORIENTAL GARDENERS
 MILLERS LANDSCAPING
 VICTOR LANDSCAPING
 RAY SABATINO LANDSCAPE
 ZO LANDSCAPING
 SAB’S LANDSCAPING
 GROUNDS FORCE LANDSCAPE CONSTRUCTION
 COUNTY TO COUNTY
 TICO’S TREE SERVICE AND LANDSCAPE
 CARMINES LANDSCAPING
 GROUNDS FOR IMPROVEMENT
 GIOVINE LANDSCAPING INC.
 LANDSCAPES AND CONSTRUCTION BY JORGE
 EL QUATZEL LLC
 DE LEON LANDSCAPES
 CARLOS RIBEIRO LANDSCAPING
 JK LAWN & LANDSCAPING

Ask your landscaper if he/she has registered with the Township. If not encourage him/her to do so. Violation of the ordinance by landscapers will result in fines by the municipal court.

ETA:  List may have expanded after it was published.  Please check with the town before assuming your landscaper is not registered if their name does not appear on the above listing.

Do you own a lawn mower?  Have you signed up with Waste Management to haul away your summer debris?  If so, PM me--my son and his friends do this for a per session fee, based on the size of your lawn (cheap).

Just to clarify, the fine would be on the landscaping company, not the homeowner so I don't think "you are limited to selecting these companies" is accurate but you'll probably want to warn a landscaper they might be getting a fine if they don't register.

Landscapers not registered have been told to cease and desist unless they register. Fine is on them but you may have to find another landscaper to finish what they start.

Would they put clippings in a compost bin on the property rather than container for WM?  Do they do any trimming or other related work?

For occasional very basic lawn care, hiring a teen from the area is probably the best deal.   That should not be considered a landscaping business.  The kids run into problems when they start handing out flyers/advertising and act as an actual professional business.  But when it is just a few customers and word of mouth, they should be okay....

You asked about lawn mowing, not leaf removal.

So, you are not limited in your choice quite as Joan has advised.   Based on the ordinance for which she kindly (and graciously)provided a link.

Plus, the horticulturally aware grasscutter will make use of a mulching mower to deal with any unwanted leaf that might have occasion to fall on your property. Neatly avoiding any "leaf removal" which might trigger a demand to pay those hefty registration/sticker fees.
