School Tomorrow?(1/25/16)

I know Newark schools are closed tomorrow, Are We?

Summit schools are closed tomorrow

West Orange is closed

New Superintendent may be reluctant to close the schools here, I heard all the parking lots and school sidewalks are cleared. Don't know if true or not. I would think the school buses would have a hard time getting around the corners with the huge snowbanks though.

until I get the robo call I'll assume all is normal.

I heard the Westfield schools are closed on Monday, as well.

Morristown too- I work there so I'm curious if they'll close my office

Maplewood / South Orange closed : (

Just got the call. School is closed!

Our Lady of Sorrows School (SO) is closed tomorrow as well.

What exactly are the snow removal issues? Does anyone know?

Not every family has a stay at home dad or mom or nanny.

 Is the new Super sound?

I don't know what the exact snow removal issues might be but it does seem difficult to remain open once the surrounding towns have decided to close. I believe most of our teachers do not actually live in SOMa.

All of the districts in the region are closed. the south mountain ymca has a new snow day program you should look into, but it probably won't help you tomorrow. good luck.

SOMA waited several hours after Summit, Millburn, and the other surrounding districts called a snow day. That suggests to me that if our children could have safely gotten to school on Monday we would be open.

Have you walked on the sidewalks today?  Most homeowners have done their best, but there was a lot of snow to move. And it will all freeze over tonight.  Can a small child be seen if they are standing at a corner waiting to cross with a 3-4 foot pile of snow on either side?

I don't envy the superintendents at these times.  If you have school and someone gets hurt, you are blamed.  If you call a snow day or a delayed opening, then people complain about child care.  But the decision cannot be based on the fact that most of us have to go to work and don't have nannies.   Yes its a PIA but there will be snow days and we need to plan accordingly.

I teach in a district west of MAPSO.  We were originally given a delayed opening around 4:45 and just now were called with an all day school closure.

I don't know about any of the other schools, but we were sledding at Jefferson around 4 and none of the sidewalks around the school were cleared. Just the walkway into the main door.

Jesus, Mary, and Joseph people! We just had a historical blizzard. It ended late last night. We all have tons of snow. Many were still clearing out this afternoon. Some local residents still have to clear cars, driveways, and sidewalks. A good amount of our local roads have limited access. Black ice will form overnight. None of this is "normal" for us.

I don't know who clears our schools, school parking lots, etc. I am glad, however, that it was decided that our district close for tomorrow. I'm sure they did not take make the decision without serious consideration. And I'm confident they had everyone's safety in mind.

Please note...just about every one of our neighboring districts declared they were closed much earlier than we did. Clearly it's dangerous out there. Sure, this can be a pain for working parents, but it's part of the gig.

They actually seemed to indicate spots are available, in the email I got. It's $85 but an option if you need it.

I debated briefly about bringing my son to the office, but realized I and everyone else will get more done if we're at home!

Drove out tonight to Whole Foods. Was glad we got the call that schools were closed while we were there since so many of the roads we drove on had only ~3/4 of a lane width each way. Traffic will be a nightmare. NJ Transit also seems to have less than 3/4 of the route running.

He's light, matter *and* sound.

in Millburn the town asked the schools to close so they could have the day to widen the passable area on streets.

I hope they do some work on the Parker Ave / Valley Street intersection or else tomorrow will be a mess.  As of last night, the intersection was constricted by snow piles.

Exactly. Many places need to be plowed again and/or widened. Some spots are treacherous!

hudson county schools closed tomorrow (jan 26)

tuscan not cleared yet.  i think no school tomorrow

Who is in charge of this process?  The School District?  Are they using Town resources?

Facebook rumor says South Mountain and CHS not nearly done either...I would say that parents need to be considering their back up plans for Tuesday, if needed.
