RTA or "knock down" kitchen cabinets archived

Has anyone done ready-to-assemble kitchen cabinets? I'm up for the task, but the selections out there seem limited; as if they are for lower end kitchens only.
Check out Barker's. I've read a lot of good things about them. We're planning to use them for our upcoming kitchen remodel.

Do you mean like Ikea cabinets? Or those off the shelf from Home Depot?

I really think the biggest issues are in the installation. I have seen DIY ikea kitchens that look sort of shabby and I have seen some that look good. I did something similar for a client, but rather than Ikea boxes my cabinet maker custom made melamine boxes and did solid wood slab doors and drawers. It was a little more expensive than ikea but it was a tight space and we needed to use every inch.

You can also buy ikea but order custom doors from various websites, including Schers. (I may have misspelled that.) bottom line is, it's all in the finishing. Exposed melamine sides, no trim, etc, make it look cheap. If it's done nicely it can look good.

I'm not in love with the look of the Ikea cabinets; and most of the other I've seen so far. I'm looking to save money over pre-assembled cabinets, but not at the cost of having a cheap looking kitchen.

They sell high end used cabinets

Cabparts.com has a lot of choices.

Ikea cabinet boxes are bought separately from the door and drawer fronts. Then you add the finishing faces. These can be ordered from different places. Usually folks order standard sizes and standard designs. But, you can also have doors and drawer fronts custom made by a local cabinet shop.
I'd consider installing the boxes then having someone from the cabinet shop measure for the door and drawer fronts... well worth any additional fee for this.

I went to green demolitions. Really cool place. Thanks for the idea. Also checked out cabparts.com. Thanks

Try the Habitat for Humanity Resale Store on Route 10. I got some fantastic kitchen cabinets there for my pantry -- which are nicer than my regular kitchen cabinets.

There's a lot out there about the Ikea cabinets; they sound pretty good. Check this post for a starting point, lots of comments, and I THINK there may be some links to a blog or two where people step-by-step go through their experience with them.

I'm going with pre-assembeled. I get a contractor rate that brings the net savings for doing the RTA down to only about 25%. I figured if I could save 40% - 50% I'd do RTA, but it's not worth it.

The RTA store, is the famous online retailer for ready to assembled and pre-assembled kitchen online store. Check here for more details:
