Restaurants Around Brooklyn Academy of Music archived

We're venturing over to BAM next weekend to see Macbeth.

Any suggestions for a place to dine, especially from you former Brooklynites?

Thanks in advance.
There's a Viennese place right across the street that is very good.

There are several places on DeKalb Avenue, parallel and very close to Lafayette Avenue. A few French bistros there come to mind ... ici, Loulou.

Go to Junior's, it's a Brooklyn landmark and it's only about a block or two away

Juniors is a bit more than a block or two away but well worth it.

Actually Junior’s is more than two blocks away but not that much more. Two blocks up to DeKalb from Lafayette and then three blocks over to DeKalb and Flatbush Ave. Ext.

What type of food are you specifically for, if any, nohero? I assume you know about plugging in restaurants into Google maps to get at least some ideas.

I'd recommend Madiba, at 195 DeKalb Avenue in Brooklyn. South African cuisine - which is fantastic, and shares some roots and flavors with Indian cuisine.

I loved Juniors. Its a great choice if they haven't changed.

Pretty flexible on type of food - it's a pre-theater meal, so we're not looking for an hours-long dining experience.

Sure, I did the Google maps thing, but I figured I'd try to get any personal recommendations that may be available from here.

[Edited to add] And thanks for the suggestions!

Juniors!! Juniors!! Bring me back some Cheese Cake PLEASEEEEEEEEE! Just kidding. Try them the food is great.

Having lived in Ft. Greene/Clinton Hill for eleven years immediately prior to moving to South Orange 2.5 years ago and gone back to the hood about twice a month since then, I'm pretty familiar with the dining options. There is an upscale burger place on Lafayette just on the other side of Fulton Street from BAM. There is a BBQ place called The Smoke Joint just opposite BAM as well. I highly recommend this place. Its some of the best Q I've had in a restaurant. I've not been to the Viennese restaurant right across the street from BAM. I'd avoid Junior's like the plague. The joint is overprices. Service is subpar and the cheesecake is subpar for those in the know. Enjoy Macbeth.

So, it turns out I was right. We went in to see MacBeth today and it's at BAM's Harvey Theater on Fulton street just off Flatbush which is one block down from Junior's on DeKalb grin

We didn't go to Juniors but the play was great and Patrick Stewart was awesome.

Right, but Brooklyn blocks are much longer than those in the city. The walk is about ten minutes.

I'd limp on my cane for a MILE to have a slice of Junior's cheesecake.

We were there recently because Daughter # 1 flew the Maplewood coop for a Brooklyn coop. She and I went to Junior's just because I have heard about it for many years. She had excellent old fashioned potato pancakes that were crispy on the outside and creamy on the inside with real old fashioned sour cream and applesauce...I had a corned beef on fresh rye and it was outstanding. We bought two pieces of cheesecake to bring home and it was so, so good...
Will definately go another time with Mr. BGS...that corned beef was so good!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Reminded me of Hobby's in Newark....

I wasn't all that impressed by Junior's, but the Viennese place is good.

I noticed that Kings in Maplewood has Junior's cheesecake.

I really wish you hadn't told me that.
