restaurant for Thanksgiving dinner

Any recommendations? For a group of 10 adults and 3 children, 6 and 9 y.o.

In the past we have liked the Manor and the Grand Hotel in Summit for going out. Later on, we prefer to stay home and have it catered. I heard that McCloone's buffet was just ok - There should be ads coming up shortly.

Do you have a caterer to recommend?

Some ideas on attached thread:

Verjus, Lorenas, Highlawn Pavilion, The Manor, Bernards Inn, Chez Catherine and Pluckemin Inn usually serve on T-day. Also farther down, Frog and Peach in New Brunswick. Not sure about newer places like Ricalton's. Also Charlie Brown's in Millburn for simpler, more casual.

I had used New World Catering and Kings Short Hills - however you have to pick up the day before and reheat in your own oven. I last used the Parkwood Diner and was able to pick up a reasonable excellent basic turkey meal. They are open on Thanksgiving - the food was hot and all I had to do was load into chafing dishes. Amazing that everyone enjoyed that food the best more than the fancier meal!

Has anyone eaten at the Olde Mill Inn in Basking Ridge for Thanksgiving? They have two options--a buffet and a sit down. In the past, I've considered trying it, but always ended up doing something else. Might consider this year, but would like some feedback.

If you have kids McLoone's is good because a) it is a buffet and they can get plain pasta and not complain; and b) there is a bar.

Is Park Wood open to eat in the restaurant on Thanksgiving or only for takeout?

Every time someone mentions catering, I still get a pang for Laura...

I've had Thanksgiving dinner here. Very homey, lighted fireplace, buffet style in another room and then back to dining room. For the buffet, you are seated at a table, they water and drink you and then you do your thing. The staff waits on you from there. You can go back to the buffet as much as you want. Food good, very homemade tasting which I like at Thanksgiving. Lots of families with grandmothers. I love historic places so I liked it. My guest didn't get the appeal. It's a pretty spot.

The Parkwood is open on Thanksgiving for breakfast and lunch ( it may close earlier you need to check closer to the date) The other diner in town is also open. The place actually felt like a happy party day and was filled!

My family always goes to a restaurant in Bayonne called Amici's that has seatings on Thanksgiving. It's an Italian restaurant, but they have a special Thanksgiving menu. Or you can order from the regular menu if turkey and stuffing isn't your thing...

We did Thanksgiving one year at the Olde Mill Inn and it was lovely.

Thanks to all for the suggestions. Though we've never spent more than $3.99 for Thanksgiving dinner at home (before the booze), for this special family occasion it looks like Ye Olde Mill might be just right.
