Repaving vs redo of driveway

Has any had their driveway repaved? (put 2 inches on top of existing driveway) vs re-doing the whole thing (dig it out). I have quotes from a few different outfits, and the quotes are all about the same $2500 for a repave vs $4000 for a dig-out. the ones that will repave plan to did out at the sidewalk and garage and feather it in. Since the lot has a slight upgrade that would work fine. The repavers state that it is okay to repave as long as the base is solid (my old drive way is) and landscape on each side is higher than the driveway (which it is). Even the extra two inches would not make the driveway higher than the surrounding landscape so the water will still drain to and down the driveway.
So is repaving an acceptable practice, as I see a lot on line just dig it out.

One advantage for repaving is that at least you don't add to waste somewhere with your old driveway.

Any thoughts.

Thanks,

yes, it's 'acceptable' (provided the existing, as a base, is sound); yes, had it done; no ill effects 6yrs later. go for it.

I have not taken the bold step to do this to my driveway but will share that my experience with few contrators that drives around has been pretty dismal. These guys want to tear up the entire place to fix the problem I have. My driveway is rather narrow and nothing else is wrong with it. So, the contractors I invited pitched that I've to redo the whole drive way otherwise they wouldno bother. That's contractors for you. They all quoted any where between $2500 to $7000 but recently I spoken to a sensible mason who agreed to the project of redoing parts that needs attention rather than removing my entire leg for just a wound. His pricing was under $1500.

What are the lengths of your driveways?  Ours will need a dig-out due to 40' trees with roots that have pushed up peaks and created  gullies that puddle and sometimes freeze. (Wonder if we should get roots trimmed, or if they'll continue to pose a threat and have the trees removed.)

Call Rocco ..will try to find his # or I know he's been mentioned on other threads .

Who is your guy? We are in desperate need of repairing our driveway as well but do not want to do the entire thing just yet.

Please let me know the contact info for your mason. Thanks,
