Removing Fun Tack archived

Does anyone know the best way to remove fun tack off a wall so you can paint? Its that blue putty like stuff that kids use to stick things to walls instead of thumb tacks. Thanks for all input!
use fun tack too remove as much of the tack as you can, then use a razor blade, then use a sponge or cloth dampened with witch hazel or rubbing alcohol, you may wan to test this in an out of the way place first to see if there is any discoloration. Which is why I didn't suggest Goo-Gone or WD40.

I thought that stuff wasn't supposed to leave marks? Get as much off as you can and then sand lightly. In most old houses it is probably a good idea to light sand the whole wall.

another suggestion often used around here is the chewing gum solution: use an ice block to instant-freeze the chunk of tack/putty, then chip off carefully. This stuff usually leaves an oily discoloured residue which is why it shouldn't be used on painted walls (real estate agents hate it); if you do have such a stain try to remove said stain with sugar soap, the recommended product for washing painted walls.

Good luck!

There are some really effective 3M products for temporary hanging of paintings and posters, also some waxy or velcro dots: these products are used in libraries and art galleries to hang directly on walls as well as other surfaces.
