Red maple problems?

We have a beautiful mid-sized red maple on our (tiny front lawn -- reaches up to the second story, and has thrived for the 11 years we've been here, until last month. Now the leaves have almost all curled up. I don't see anything suspicious on the bark, though I'm not a gardener or tree expert. Anyone familiar with red maples, or having this kind of trouble with yours? I'm reading that sometimes very hard winters can result in problems the following summer, which may resolve in a year or two. Just worried about our tree.

Many of our beautiful trees are shedding leaves because there has been so little rain and it is hot. Our red maple is doing better re this than our oaks, but I have noticed nearby maples that are stressed. I don't know if it is too late to water it, but I think your tree should be ok..... rather like how the grass goes dormant.

I have my fingers crossed that it's the weather rather than verticillium wilt, which isn't treatable, from what I see online. We'll get someone in to take a look.

water, water and more water - it's in danger.
