Thanks for "I Spy," the Mary Tyler Moore and Bob Newhart shows, "The White Shadow," "WKRP in Cincinnati," "Hill Street Blues," David Letterman, and names I learned to look for in the credits like Jay Sandrich, James L. Brooks and James Burrows.

Grant Tinker, Former Chairman of NBC, Dies at 90

So many of these shows are among my favorites - Thanks, Mr. Tinker, for so many hours of wonderful entertainment. RIP.

"Everything's a situation," the detective on "Hill Street Blues" used to say. I still quote that line often, because everything really, really is. And: Ted Baxter. That Grant Tinker had a hand in bringing us Ted Baxter--that alone makes him a titan of TV.
Rest in peace, Grant Tinker. Thanks for the laughs. Thanks for the real. You acquitted yourself well.

So many shows that made you laugh, cry, empathize, and think. We need more of those today. Thank you Grant Tinker.

My wife and son gave me DVD sets of "The Bob Newhart Show" and "WKRP" on consecutive birthdays a few years back, and viewings of the "Over the River and Through the Woods" and "Turkeys Away" episodes are now an annual tradition -- which we spread to our hosts in Philly just last week.
