Prospect Closed between Parker and Elmwood

They're cleaning up from an accident.

How awful! People have been driving like complete idiots these past few days - 3-4 cars going through light on red, pulling out without looking, driving with brights on. I really hope this guy is okay.  :-(

I've seen many idiot drivers out there.  I've also seen plenty of clueless pedestrians.  I hope the victim is okay.  Scary all around.

I was just saying today that I've never seen so many people ignoring the usual rules of safe driving. I was blaming it on the hectic elements of the Christmas season, but still......   I pray the injured man will have a complete recovery. Hard to say who was at fault, given the rain and darkness and I wouldn't hazard a guess in any event. I guess everyone, drivers and pedestrians, needs to be more cautious and observant this time of year.

Agree with general idiocy as noted above. But also was driving along Prospect the other evening looking for a street to turn onto and it became apparent how poorly lit it is, particular at the numerous intersections along that stretch near where this accident occurred.

live over that way and after speeding the number one crazy thing is not driving on your side of the road. Prospect and Parker barely have double lines because so many cars just swerve - avoiding the jitney, parked cars or avoiding leaves. I've almost been in probably 15 head-on collisions.

I hope the person who was hit by the car yesterday makes a full recovery.

I've seen cars drive much too fast on Prospect.  Just yesterday morning I looked, saw no cars coming, started across Prospect Street in the crosswalk and nearly got hit by a speeding car that seemed to appear out of nowhere.  Fortunately, the driver was able to stop in time.  We all have to remember that Prospect is a residential street with several schools and places of assembly located among the houses.  It is also a street that pedestrians often need to cross in order to get to/from schools, shops, public transportation, libraries, municipal buildings, parks, etc.  We all (drivers and pedestrians) need to be more alert and to take sufficient time so we can avoid speeding and distracted walking/driving.

Last night's rain added to the problems with visibility.

Add to that, pedestrians wearing dark and even black clothing. Again, I will purchase reflective safety vests at cost... $5.00 each to whoever wants one.

We can't control the driving behavior of other motorists. That is a job for public safety. But there are precautions as pedestrians. The most obvious is to make sure that cars in both directions are aware of you before crossing the street.
