Primary Care Doctor?

When someone finds a strange lump in the breast, what type of doctor do you see?

Thinking it's a Primary Care Doctor, does anyone have any recommendation for a good one in the area?

I would go directly to Dr. Jan Huston. She has several offices and the closest one is right behind the Bed n Bath. It is called Summit Breast Center. She is the best in the area. And a sweetheart to boot. I too found something recently and was able to get an appt.

BTW she takes ALL insurances. When I questioned her about my Medicare she said insurance issues will not stop her from treating a patient. Now that is what a doctor SHOULD be. Good luck to you....

We continue to really love the group that includes Samantha Pozner, Marnie Doubek and Amy Schram of the Summit-Springfield Family practice. These physicians are warm, caring and smart. They have a good referral network, too, and always make sure to give you referrals in your insurance network. I have gone to them in crisis and they have been appropriately responsive.

Dr Connie Delio, who took over for Dr Deepa Sharma is wonderful.--Maplewood Family practice, now located at 111 Dunnell Rd, M 908-598-6690

I would suggest just going to a breast surgeon -- eliminate the middleman/middlewoman. Summit Medical Group has a Breast Care Center. wwwsummitmedicalgroup.com

If you don't have a primary care physician, going directly to a specialist makes sense.

However, for general well-being, establishing a relationship with a primary care doc is important. If Summit Medical Group is in your insurance plan, it is a good place to start for both.

Good luck with a diagnosis.

Thank you, everyone. It seems today most places don't answer phones, so i am going to start calling tomorrow morning for an appointment.

We just saw Dr. Sarah Schaefer with St. Barnabus Breast Center. She was very nice and thorough. She has offices in Livingston and Westfield .

I saw Dr Diana Addis, surgeon at Summit medical group.

Do you have a gyn?

I recently had an issue and went to my primary care doctor, Karen Young (http://www.maplewooddoctors.atlantichealth.org/physicians), who referred me to Dr. Julie Digioia (http://findadoctor.atlantichealth.org/detail.aspx?recid=1771) at Overlook. I love them both!

Yes, i do have a gyn, and i was wondering if this would be for him to see or some other specialist. I am trying to schedule an appointment with the Breast Centers mentioned above, since they are close to me and take insurance.
But i also have to schedule an appointment with a Primary Care doctor, since i haven't had one in years.
Besides going to the gyn, dentist, and dermatologist for the routine appointments, i have put everying else related to my health aside while busy with the kids.

Your gynecologist is a good start. When calling for an appointment, be sure to tell them why you are calling.

Once you get started on this journey appointments will come quickly. Mammogram, appointment s with surgeon etc. It will begin to fall in place. If there's any question about what your problem is, do not hesitate to get a second opinion.

Sometimes a primary care doc is what you need to help you get a faster appointment with the specialist. In any case, good luck. Been there and done that (like many people here), so don't hesitate to ask for input as you go forward.

I agree re gynecologist. In my case, I was referred to Dr. Huston (mentioned above) and she was great. (And the suspicious spot turned out to be benign.) My gyn has since joined Summit Medical Group so the referral might be different now.

Good luck!

Exactly. Many lumps turn out to be something minor (I had a number of cysts drained in-office in my 20s, for example). If you can get to your gyn faster than a specialist, he/she may be able to help if it is something that simple, write the scrip for the mammogram, and make the referral if needed.

I know how easy it is to fall behind with general internists visits when kids are little, especially when you need to find a new doctor to work with (just in the process of doing this now, after my old PCP, who I loved, died). Hang in there and catch up. Wishing you the best of health.

Thank you so much, everyone.
I was able to schedule an appointment with Dr Lozner from Summit Medical Group for tomorrow. Dr Huston didn't take my insurance.
We'll see how that goes.

I was a patient of Dr. Huston's and have recommended her highly over the years to others. I am in shock at the loss of a great, caring physician.

Prominent Breast Cancer Doctor Struck and Killed by Vehicle in Essex Fells

What a tragic loss. Talk about living a life full of value and purpose.

What a tragedy. She sounds like she was a wonderful person and doctor.

This is a sad event and a great loss. My doctor sent me to see Dr. when I had a lump twenty years ago and I remember every word she said and how wonderfully she handled the time I was with her professionally and compassionately. A great loss to her family and our community..

I have been and still am a patient of Dr. Lozner. He is gentle, kind and very forthright, do not hesitate to ask questions. There is a great support system at the Breast Care Center at SMG. I see him every six months and always feel confident in his care.

Why was the driver not charged? This happens so often, and I don't get it. Is this a "these things happen" attitude?

Maybe because he or she did not break the law? Accidents do happen.

Depends on the circumstances. If the deceased was jaywalking then the driver is not at fault. The article above was very light on details.
