Poll: Do you put egg in when making hamburgers? archived

Or just spices & meat?
Just good quality meat plus salt and pepper. Egg - ewww!

I put a fried egg on top.

eliz, don't judge! My brother-in-law puts egg. He's actually quite a good cook, so that's why I asked. I thought maybe it was something done by those in the know.

same as eliz

my mother used to put egg in it. i try not to do anything like her.

I mix in a bit of very cold water, and occasionally onion soup mix, or Worcestershire Sauce, or crumbled blue cheese...

Are you Australian???
{Edited - I was too slow - that remark is for BMalibashka}

Ground beef, salt, pepper, italian seasoning, onion, garlic powder (sometimes) and a smattering of either ketchup or steak sauce.

No egg.

This is the most controversial thread I've ever started. I really want to stoke the flames somehow. My brother-in-law is a staunch Obama supporter, while my Mother who doesn't use egg in burgers voted for Nader. Nader!!

And no...I'm not Australian. But were you asking me? Probably not.

Bitch...

I know. She's not in a solid blue state, either. That woman.

Sometimes. Depending on my mood, I may also add breadcrumbs or many of the other seasonings people have mentioned here. Parmesan cheese too. Or fresh herbs. But the more you put in it, the less likely it'll hold together. The Barefoot Contessa suggest placing a patty of butter right in the middle of the burger. Makes it really moist.

But I do find it ironic that in a supposedly diverse community such as this one, there is so much intolerance for burgers with eggs in them. What if that's just your inherited culture?

The way I see it, catsup shouldn’t be necessary if the meat is rare enough. Steak sauce should only be used if the meat isn’t a really good cut. Cheese is nice but adds fat. So I fry the egg up and put it on top.

I strongly dislike ketchup. I don't even like to have it in the house. Again, controversial!

And we haven't even discussed ground beef as opposed to ground turkey!

The ketchup and steak sauce just add a different flavour. At times I may leave them out and when the burgers are are cooking, sprinkle on worcester sauce - that's good too.

or grilled...Fishburgers!!! wait, that wasn't a personal attack.

Well, you best watch it, or I'll be eating laraburgers tonight!

Laraburgers would be waay too spicy for you my friend!

Not if I dilute them with egg!

Controversial!!!!

Since when has the fish ever shied away from controversy?

egg in meatloaf and meatballs, yes.

Hamburgers, no.

What exactly would be the point of putting an egg in hamburger meat??? It's like putting milk in scrambled eggs....just don't do it....

I always put a little milk or cream in scrambled egg

I think the egg is supposed to bind things together, but i'm doing fine without it.

diced apples. controversial. try it.

apples. wow. VERY controversial.

That is controversial. I think Dave should be banned.
