Police in the park?

Anyone know why part of memorial park in maplewood is cordoned off and cops are everywhere?  Kind of strange...

Saw that too - ambulance and half a dozen police cars around the library.   Came here to find out why.

I just passed the library, and its surrounded by crime scene tape, with at least 3 ambulances and as many police vehicles in front.  They were looking in the shrubs at the back of the library lot.  Looks pretty serious, so I'm also wondering what's happening.

I just walked by in the park. I asked the cop what was going on, and he sternly said he "couldn't talk about it right now".  Looks serious.

Someone on Facebook posted that North Jersey Fire News reports it as a possible crime scene, reported body found in brook.

I'm just walking past there now. The medical examiner's vehicle is parked  in front of library

The Eyewitness News van just went past my house on Valley Street. : (

Just passed by it. Went to return the book, only to find out about this. According to the news lady, there was a body found. The area is closed off, police/fire/medical examiners all were at the scene. Scary, I usually run around the park every day

What is RLS Media? Whoever wrote the above seems to lack a basic grasp of the English language.

According to something just posted on Facebook the police are not treating this as suspicious.

According to something just posted on Facebook the police are not treating this as suspicious. Sounds like it might have been a suicide.

Oy.  Please don't post such rumors.

"Not suspicious" does not suggest suicide.

How is a body in a brook not "suspicious" within an hours of finding it?

I'm not going to speculate but I could name a few ways.

I assume it's when the medical examiner determines the cause of death, and it wasn't murder. The person found was identified as 61 years of age.

Could have been a heart attack or stroke, a fall. We all die and it's not necessarily suspicious when and where we do.

Just to clarify, ME's determination of "cause of death" refers to physiological reason for the death. It's the "manner of death" that can be classified as homicide (of various ilk), accidental, suicide, etc. Typically, the manner of death isn't declared by the ME until the police do their investigation.

Exactly, though it's upsetting, no matter what.
