Hello all

Below is an email that is being sent to the Maplewood/South Orange community regarding a "golf outing" for a new locally based charity called the AV Hero Fund.  As you will read, this organization was formed with the mission to continue the charitable work of Angelo Vayas.  This organization is special for the reasons stated below, but it is special to me because part of its mission is to focus on community members who have suffer from a special emergency.  This continues the work that we began with the HK Project (a/k/a HK Community Fund) through our HK CARES program.  Since we closed down HKP, we have heard of many families that could have benefited from community support that was available through HK CARES. I'm thrilled that the AV Hero Fund will continue this important work.

BTW, I put the phrase "golf outing" in quotes, because this event is much more than golf.  So, those of you who do not play golf there are a number of other ways you can participate in this special event (tennis, swimming, sun bathing, eating, drinking, dancing.....)

Dear Friends and Community Members:

We are thrilled to announce the First Annual AV Hero Fund Golf Outing on Monday, June 13, 2016 at the Maplewood Country Club. We hope you can join us for what promises to be a fabulous day of golf, tennis, and swimming, followed by dinner and dancing.

The AV Fund was created to honor Angelo Vayas, who was a beloved friend to many of you, and man with great love and devotion for his family and his community.    

Angelo was an outstanding member of our community.  Whether you knew Angelo as a friend, or as the always smiling owner of The Village Trattoria in Maplewood and South Orange, he was always eagerly willing to help others in the community in any way possible. He truly loved to contribute to his community.  When Angelo passed away in May, 2015, after a courageous battle against brain cancer, the AV Hero Fund was created to continue his remarkable legacy of compassion and helping those in need. The AV Hero Fund is intended to provide the means and resources to help individuals in the community with special emergency needs, to allow for a life experience that has been denied due to extenuating circumstances (similar to the Make A Wish Foundation), and to contribute towards brain and spine tumor research. 

You can help us honor Angelo and contribute towards helping others in our community by joining for some or ALL of the AV Hero Day. There are activities for everyone! If you are a golfer, you can get a foursome together and come play on a great course!  The tennis courts and pool are also available.  Even if you just choose to lounge by the pool for lunch, this is a great opportunity to help others while having a fantastic time! After the day time activities, there will be a great dinner and dancing!  You can go to our website - www.AVHeroFund.org - and check out all of the options. And remember --- you will be having all of this fun with friends while making a huge difference in the lives of others...... just like Angelo loved to do!
