Please provide me with NJ Transit or other bus company options from Newark Penn to Maplewood this evening

I didn't want to post in the accident thread but I (and others of course) will need to get home later today and want to know my options. I work in Jersey City so tomorrow I'll probably drive. But I need to get home today.

I would like to know the specific bus number and bus company for buses into Maplewood. It can stop along Springfield or go to Valley. I would prefer Valley since my car is parked at the station but I do live close to Springfield and can walk or get a ride to the station if necessary after I get off the bus.

Thanks in advance for specific routes and directions for later today.

If you tell people what time it might be helpful.

I imagine there will be lots of people looking for alternative transportation for the foreseeable future. I think I read over 10,000 people use the Hoboken terminal daily.

Wendy, at what time are you planing on heading home? We are leaving at 5pm from Harborside Plaza 5 and currently have room for 2 people. Let me know if you want to join us. We can definitely leave you anywhere on Valley since we are heading to VB to pick up our son at daycare.

Not sure why time is important. For what's it's worth I plan to take the PATH from Exchange Place to Newark Penn sometime after 5 today. There is no light rail service. I am aware that there are thousands of people who can't use Hoboken - including those who work downtown or otherwise take PATH or Ferry from lower Manhattan or elsewhere.

I know there are people who commute from Newark to Maplewood every day and want to know how they would do it if they couldn't take the train.

I think there's a Maplewood Loop one and a Springfield Ave. one. I wanted train numbers and companies (could be Coach not NJ Transit) and I could look things up.

Thanks!

I would LOVE to get a ride home. I work at Harborside Plaze 10 (actually 3 Second Street). Please feel free to call me at [edited now that plans have been made] and I can leave at 5 or earlier at your convenience! Thank you so much!

It would not be a good trip but you could go to New York Penn either by Path from Grove Street or Exchange to WTC then the E Train. Then you could take the train from there.

Perfect! We can definitely give you a ride. If you could be here at 5pm that would be great. We have a limited time window to arrive at the day care and pick up our son.if you need to reach me. I will send you a text message as well.

I'll bet the trains out of NYP are going to be jam-packed this afternoon!

True. NYP is an almost unbearable zoo under the best of conditions.

And you can bet to win that they won't put extra trains on, or extra cars on the existing trains.

From Newark Penn Station (PATH or NJT line to Newark Penn Station):

25 and 70 buses both go up Springfield Avenue and stop at Prospect Street and Springfield Avenue. If taking the 25 bus, make sure you are on a Maplewood Bus since most 25 buses terminate at the bus garage.

31 bus stops along Valley Street. This bus goes to Maplewood during rush hours only. This is not a NJT bus. Check the Coach website for schedule.

Port Authority Bus Terminal:

107 bus. Change to 25/70 at Irvington Bus Terminal or get off at South Orange Train Station and take NJT train one stop to Maplewood.

I knew I can count on you Joan. THANKS! As you can see I did get a ride but thanks so much and this will be useful for the future. Out of curiosity are there TWO # 25 buses - one that goes to Maplewood and one that terminates at the garage?

They can't add extra trains. Tunnels are already at maximum capacity. Hopefully, they'll make sure that all of the trains are as large as possible and not short us cars.

It is the same bus line; but, with different termination points. The buses going past the bus garage will have "Maplewood" on the route sign. If you do get on one of the buses which terminates at the bus garage, you should be able to transfer at the bus garage for a 25 or 70 bus going further into Maplewood.

Coming home from lower Manhattan. What is peoples' gut feeling? PATH to Newark Penn and bus to South Orange, or, subway to NY Penn and regular midtown direct to South Orange.

Just for today or for the foreseeable future until NJT to Hoboken restored? In any event I think PATH to Newark Penn would be best regardless whether you then bus it to South Orange or perhaps split a cab/uber with people to South Orange. Penn will be more of a mess.

Both I guess. Today I think I'll leave a bit early and go to NYP.

Port Authority 107X or 107 might be the best way of commuting to SO tonight and tomorrow morning. I would check the NJT website for schedule and information as to whether they are running extra buses tonight and tomorrow. If taking a local bus from Newark Penn Station, the 31 bus which goes along SO Avenue would come closest to the SO train Station. Some turn down Valley Street from SO Avenue. Others stop directly across the street from the SO train station.

Thanks Joan, I'm sure you're right, but I avoid PABT like the plague since Sandy.

I think I'm going to time-shift earlier both directions and go with Midtown Direct. Will report back.

Just got an alert that PATH service is restored TO Hoboken, but NOT FROM Hoboken

They are offering free bus service from Hoboken to the Secaucus station where the trains that just go to Hoboken usually can be picked up. If coming from NY Penn, I would avoid any train stopping in Secaucus. It will be packed.

Also, the Ferry is cross honoring NJ Transit tickets.

My normal route is Mountain Station to Hoboken, then ferry or PATH to WTC. NJ Transit said they'll be adding extra stops east of Summit on Midtown Direct trains out of NY Penn, but I just can't face the thought of dealing with that madhouse today. So I'm going to try PATH > Newark Penn > light rail > Newark Broad for this evening. But I'm planning to work from home tomorrow, because none of the available travel options are particularly good.

The Newark Penn - light rail - Newark Broad connection is an awful one. Typically a long wait then a slow trip on light rail. I tried it once and never again.

Thanks, that's good to know--maybe NY Penn is the better option, then. Ugh ugh ugh.

The 4:09 from NYP is quite full, but left on time

PATH service is now fully restored to/from Hoboken (WTC-HOB and 33-HOB). Use Hoboken City entrance at Hudson Pl and River St.

the 4:38 PM from NY Penn left on time.

They have said that more stops east of Summit will be added to MTD trains, so I'd bet on most, if not all, of them stopping at Secaucus. Perhaps DepartureVision will show the added stops (?)

Spouse reports that his train has Secaucus added. (5:14 express out of Penn that normally only stops at Newark Broad before Maplewood.)
