Place to get hair dyed blue

Anyone know of a place for my daughter to get her hair dyed blue that is reasonably priced but does a good job? Thanks

Not ALL blue. That looks phony-

BLUE highlights is the way to go. Looks more natural.

Lexie at the salon on Ridgewood -- accross from Milk money!! As a matter of fact Lexie rocked her own blue hair style for a number of years....... She does a nice job at a reasonable price.

Thank you :

Sometimes "phony" (or at least a completely unnatural color) is what you're going for.

Yeah, 'cause blue highlights occur naturally from?

If you're going blue, go ALL THE WAY!

(Note: I wish I worked in an environment where I could dye my hair a funky color. I have a friend with green highlights - very well done highlights - and they look awesome.)

Anyone who does good highlights. I go to Sherri at glo. She's got a chair in la maison in short hills. I recently had blue and green added to my hair. I bring my own dye- I think Sparks lasts longer than manic panic. The color fades pretty quickly though! I redo it myself every 2-3 weeks.

I work in a very conservative industry. Decided to give myself some purple highlights during a summer vacation, which turned out to be more permanent than I was expecting (the highlights, not the vacation!). I was worried about reactions at the office, but everyone loved it so I've kept it up ever since. It's fun and a great conversation piece. (I use Manic Panic.)

For some reason, I assumed that these unnatural colors -- which I love -- are done at home. I'm pretty sure I saw some of those dyes at Min's Beauty Supply on Springfield Ave. I haven't lived in Maplewood for two years, so I don't even know if that place still exists. My daughter did her own hair with supplies she bought there.

don't you just buy Punky Colors and do it at home?

MW27,

I don,t understand... You have streaks done pro'ly and tune up yourself. Why can,t you do the orig too? I,m asking for someone that I think could benefit from dark streaks. Also, how strong are the chems used?

Thank

My base color is brown so i need my hair bleached down before the blue color can be done. I wont ever try to highight my own hair. I leave that to the professionals. I also go darker for added contrast. The funky colors are only temporary. I have to wash my hair daily so they don't last as long as someone who can go longer. Initially i used manic panic and it faded super fast. The color also wasn't as intense as I was looking for. I really like the sparks. The blue is nice and saturated.

I work in a creative environment so pretty much anything goes smile

Is there such a thing as temporary hair coloring? Seems to me that it would allow folks to try something before making a "mistake". Something along the lines of a temp tattoo.

Ricky's NYC has a salon in back for funky stuff. Bet they do a lot of fun colors!

Yep. Most temp colors last about 6 washes or so. They can be fun if you have light hair, but with dark hair in my experience you still have to bleach first.

Another way to color temporarily is to cut your hair very short before coloring. If you don't like the result after a while, cut it short again.

You can't really go lighter with temporary color. If your hair is dark, the only way to do a vibrant color like blue is to remove all the color/ pigment from the natural hair- essentially stripping it white blond. Then you add color to that bleached out hair. It is pretty complicated to bleach it out like that. And because it's now color being added to bleached out hair, it has to be done frequently because the color will fade easily. Not a DIY thing. If you already have blonde hair, you can add temporary color more successfull

This is one of the few advantages of being pretty gray/white -- no need to bleach first!

Yeah but by the time you are grey, it's probably mostly time to hang up the funky hair color unless maybe you are a rock star. Just look how silly Kelly Ripa looks

Ageist much?

I know a grey-haired woman with braids who dyes her hair green. I love it. I think she's in her 70's.

As we used to sing in the 70's, Freak Out!

I don't know. I am lumping myself into the "too old for colored hair" club (along with Kelly Ripa who's my age!) so not sure ageist. There are some things we must sadly outgrow.

I am sure a few can still rock it in braids and colored hair at 70 but I am guessing they are few an far between and most would just look a tad silly. However, if they like it, rock on!

Kelly Ripa? She's not even freaking 45 yet, FFS.

I understand. And even at 45 she looks pretty silly with blue hair. That was the point

conandrob240, that's fine, but of course, it's a personal choice.

I had to look up Kelly Ripa. I saw the images before the text, and I figured out she was a soap opera actress. I don't even know how I did that.

Well, I don't think you are the norm, Tom, when it comes to celebrity/ pop culture knowledge. LOL. She's a pretty household name since she got the gig alongside Regis years ago. But I only mentioned her because I saw a picture a few weeks ago of her with blue hair and made me chuckle a

But of course, everyone should do whatever they want. If you want blue hair 45 or 105, rock on with your bad self. If it made me happy, I wouldn't care that I looked silly (but I'd probably know I had really sort of aged out of the look somewhere in the back of my mind.
