My parents have given me their old wrought iron furniture for my porch and patio. It's a great condition structurally, but desperately needs to be painted. Can anyone recommend someone for the job? As much as I would like to think that I could do this myself, I want to be sure that it looks good, so I'd rather hire someone with experience as long as it won't break the bank!
Wire brush the whole set. lightly in areas where there's still paint; down to shiny metal where there's rust. Prime and paint. Take reasonable precautions when spraying... you don't want to redecorate your neighbor's car on a windy day. A Dremel tool w/ wire brush may speed the job.
Not to be the contrarion but consider having it media blasted and then powdercoated. When I was young, we'd been gifted iron furniture from the grandparents, who had gotten it from relatives even earlier. We did the rustoleum thing and tolerated that for decades. A couple years ago my mother was ready to toss it. The paint was thick, chipped, and just not nice. I remember every spring we'd touch it up because it chipped so easily.
Had someone media blast and then powdercoat it in a flat black with a slightly grainy texture. It looks great and in three years still looks brand new. For a couch, two arm chairs, for side tables, a dining table, and four chairs it was less than a grand. I think she paid more for the new cushions to be made. The finish is impossible to chip and it is completely evenly applied (powder coat is applied via static electrIcity). Car restorers powder coat suspension parts because of how well it tolerates abuse. The media blasting revealed all sorts of lost details on the iron flowers and leaves etc.
Is there a local place that will powdercoat furniture, extuscan? I've been looking for awhile and most local places don't have a large enough chamber. I'd love to find a place.
Thanks in advance!
