Our address is wrongly listed as a construction company

Our house has been receiving spammy mail for a construction company since before we lived here. Strangely, the little google map pin has our house listed as this construction company as well. It's never bothered me until I got a random kids' catalog sent to me the other day, with my name and then the construction company underneath, then our address. I'm a little nervous that *I* am now linked to this company, not just my house. I called the company and indeed they have a location with our street address but in Millstone. All they could suggest was to go to the post office and have the mail forwarded there.

But does anyone know how I can now separate my NAME from this place? I assume nothing bad will come of it....but it's just irksome. And the Google maps identification as it being our house??

Interesting.  I get mail for a strange (as in stranger) woman at my address and as far as I can tell she never lived at our address.  I have similar concerns.

Is the ZipCode for Millstone similar to yours (don't know what town you're in)?  It's possible that if mail has the right town but the wrong ZipCode, it might be sorted according to Zip.

It might help to know if that is the problem.

For many years I got phone messages for an autobody shop 5 or 6 blocks from me.  Their phone number was one digit off from mine.   Many times people inquired about cars they had left or the possibility of work to be done, even though the recorded message on my phone clearly stated they had reached the residence of "Chopin."  After a while I just ignored it, instead of trying to set people right.

We get calls for a doctor's office. People would leave messages anyway even though I clearly stated it was a residence. I ended up making our outgoing message almost a full 30 seconds long, reiterating that we are not a doctor's office and messages would not be returned. People finally stopped leaving messages! For them and us! Ha!

hey @afa, want to bid on our house reno?

I would not worry about it. Likely, someone transposed or mistyped something. Then other businesses bought the mailing list and the error was escalated. Just throw the junk mail out. The construction company probably doesn't want it either.

If you really care, call the company sending the catalogs and tell them the construction company's correct address.

graham, thanks for the link! I'll try that tonight.

I'm not super concerned about any of it, but it was just so weird that the children's toy catalog was sent to my name, c/o the construction company. I just don't want the company to go bankrupt and I'm somehow linked to them. We're in Maplewood and the zip codes aren't similar at all. The error was made years ago, as the previous owner said they got mail for this company too.

Annemarie, we require a 75% down payment for a bid. Let me know.
