Orthodontist Recommendation archived

I have an appointment with Dr. Steinberg. I was wondering if anyone had feedback about him or any other recommendations. Thank you.

We used Dr. Kaswiner in Springfield. Would recommend him highly.

Dr. Steinberg did our son's teeth. He waited until his teeth were ready (a year and a half!) so that the braces would be on the least amount of time. We are very pleased with the results.

I've heard good things about Steinberg. We use Dr. Rosen in Chatham. If it doesn't work out with Dr. S then I would highly recommend Dr. R

Here's another recommendation for Dr. Kaswiner. Relates wonderfully to kids and has very competent staff.

I'm glad this is the case. Dr. Steinberg did my teeth, my sister's, and my SIL's teeth. In my case he started VERY young, and I ended up having work done continuously for over 9 years.

My sister is now taking my niece to see him, and sister states that he has streamlined his procedures somewhat. For example, our family has narrow palates, and when we were young he stretched the palate first (took well over a year) and THEN started the braces. He told my sister that he now does both simultaneously. This obviously shortens the amount of time needed for treatment if palate stretching is needed.

Another recommendation for Dr. Kaswiner in Springfield...

We use Dr Persily in Livingston. We chose him mostly because he was able to do the orthodontia with retainers, rather than metal braces. At the most, my child will have braces on for 3-6 months. It didn't take any longer to use retainers rather than braces, and my kid was all over not having metal stuff put on her teeth, and I was all over it too, because its so much easier to keep the mouth clean clean. I remember having something like 10 cavities when I got my braces off.

Having worn both a retainer and braces I can say with full confidence that the retainer was 100 times worse.

not to a 13 year old girl oh oh The retainer is also nice because she only has to wear it 13 hours a day.

How would she know? Has she tried braces?

If your child is at all prone to losing things or not getting with the program, retainers are definitely worse (for the parent, anyway). My daughter (nearly 12) mistakenly heard that she was getting retainers rather than braces and was not happy. I think they are more annoying; you definitely don't want to put them back in after you eat anything without brushing first, right? And I think taking them out for lunch at school can be awkward. That said, there are those who swear by the retainer method. I am no expert, to be sure, but once my son graduated to retainers from braces I was really missing the braces (until my son came around to using the retainers as directed).

Our orthodontist, Dr. Bloomstein in Livingston, is terrific. Some of you may remember our late-night braces emergency last summer. My son was scheduled to leave the house at 4am to catch a flight for a summer program and he had an issue with the wire on his braces. Dr. Bloomstein met us at his office at 11pm to fix the issue before my son left. What a guy!

Another vote for Steinberg!

We use Dr. Kaswiner in Springfield. He is wonderful. I've heard good things about Dr. Rosen, but he takes cash only, no credit cards, no payment plans, which is a little onerous for orthodontia payments.

Another Steinberg fan, here.

Son saw him periodically from ~ 4 y/o on his dentist's recommendation. No charge. Another narrow palate, so there were a few teeth pulled by the dentist to make room, along the way, and some palate expanding retainers. Not a big deal at all, surprisingly.

When we finally embarked on braces the process was pretty quick (2 1/2 yrs?). The kid was religious about retainer wearing as directed, but had some stubborn teeth that reverted twice. So we changed one retainer, then went back to lingual braces for (9 mos?) a bit, and finally ended up splinting those stubborn teeth to the well-behaving ones. One price from the onset of braces.

Hopefully, the next visit will be our last.

We love Steinberg too. He does not want the kids wearing braces for too long. My older girls had very bad overbites among other issues, so they got braces for about a year instead of multiple retainers. Since we are such late teethers, this was a quick way to have their teeth look better and not have them chip or break buck teeth. Now as teenagers, they will wear them again, but for minimal time.

I had braces for over 3 years, with retainers before and after...my how times have changed.

Can someone post a # for Steinberg please?

We used Mark Caplan - he is very good
