Off to St. Louis this weekend..

Any good recommendations on live music places and restaurants?

Here's a thread with a few comments that may be helpful from a few years ago: https://maplewood.worldwebs.co...

I was there for a day - don't remember too much - went to the Arch - got some ribs. I didn't ride up in the arch - line was long and from what I've heard it doesn't sound like it's worth the wait.

Thanks so much Jamie! Sorry I failed to search.

We have family in this part of town and love it's mix of restaurants.

Don't know of music venues...

Best Regards,

The restaurant critic for the Riverfront Times, Ian Froeb, recently published his list of the 100 best restaurants in STL. The first 25 are ranked in order. Trust him.

OOPS. Froeb is the critic for the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. I would trust his judgement, but not any readers' polls the P-D- might run. I'm not sure about the Riverfront Times' critic, and I wouldn't trust their polls, as with the P-D's polls.

The Focal Point, just over the city line in Maplewood (!!!!!) for folk and ethnic music.

There is a Pinball bar just down the street from the Focal Point, on the corner of Sutton and Hazel. FP adjoins a Mexican restaurant, with a communicating door, and when you attend music events you can get a drink from the restaurant and bring it into FP.

My kid goes to college there, so we've been a couple of times a year for the last four years. (And she's staying there for grad school, so we aren't done with it.) We went to the Arch once and enjoyed it. You can buy tickets ahead of time, IIRC. (Our hotel was downtown on that trip, so it wasn't a big effort to do that.) We may or may not do it again. Go to "The Hill" for Italian food. We like Zia's there, but I know there are lots of good Italian restaurants there. It's different from the Italian food here in some ways, but very good. Be sure to try the toasted ravioli! We like Pappy's BBQ, but sometimes it is really crowded. Not sure re live music, but I'll ask my kid about that and other restaurant recs.

This joint will be jumping (weather permitting) on Friday night at 7 and Saturday and Sunday afternoons at 1. Due to perform: Meet the Stadium Organist

I have a conflicting baseball engagement.

Thanks sac! I would like to see "The Hill" for Berra/Garagiola/DiMaggio reasons. Pappy's is on the list.

Ah, I see now. And at almost the exact same times. May the skies be clear, and best of luck.

A member of my family will be spending several days week out there at the end of the month, so please report back on any good (preferably cheap!) eats.

Whew, Jim. Sounded like some road trip. Hope the nightcap made up for some of it.

Guess you read. They got in at midnight Saturday - had to play a DHer at 10:30 Sunday morning. Dog tired in Game 1 and the 10-0 loss showed it. The bounce-back in Game 2 and fine pitching performance did make it worthwhile!

To follow up on recommendations, two days of the conflict were resolved so we got to hear that organist on Friday night! Great park and quite impressive that the guy was playing classic rock on the organ. No hip-hop for the Cards!

Got to the arch. Tram was closed for repairs but the structure is still amazing and the documentary about its construction was great. Son #2 was into it.

As to food and events, ballpark Friday night, a late hotel brunch Saturday morning, Ubered to Beer school and the tour at the AB brewery in the afternoon , walked over to dinner at Peacemaker in Soullard (great seafood place - not cheap, but reasonable). Kid went to Drewes and raved about it. Ball games Sunday. Hoping to go back for the conference finals in late May when we can try more places.

Nice town and people!

Thanks for the report. Son plans to catch a Sunday game at Busch when he's out there later this month. I'll pass the word about Drewes.
